In this video, we will be designing a fire sprinkler system layout for a single family ranch home. The design will be based on the 2016 edition of NFPA 13D and we will be using CPVC piping. We will also be designing with a pump and tank to keep things simple, and we will be using a 4.9 K Factor sprinkler head with a 16 by 16 spacing. We will be designing for a flow rate of 13 gallons per minute. We will be using a software called Draftsight, which is similar to AutoCAD LT, to create the design. We will start by cleaning up the ranch home drawing and removing unnecessary architectural details. We will then mark the locations where sprinkler heads are not needed, such as in the garage and in small closets and bathrooms. Finally, we will measure the square footage of the remaining rooms to determine the number of sprinkler heads needed and will place them in the center of the room as a starting point.
