5 Choke Hold Defenses Women MUST Know | Self Defense | Aja Dang

I'm Aja Dang and I teamed up with Renner Gracie from Gracie University to show you 5 choke hold defense techniques every woman MUST know when involved in a fight. In a perfect world, women wouldn't need to know self protection, but we are not in a perfect world. This video will teach you how to escape from some attacks and sexual assault positions. We covered some of the best defense moves in this self defense training video - even how to escape a choke hold.

While this doesn't take place of actual jiu jitsu training, these are self defense techniques that can be practiced at home. I really hope that we never have to use these techniques against an attacker, but better to know the basics than know nothing at all.

* special thanks to Renner Gracie for spending the afternoon teaching us these important techniques.

Ladies, just remember that you're watching it now and thinking "okay I got this" but if you're actually attacked, your mind may go blank. Take a class and practice to the point where these movements are second nature. Stay safe 💛

I love how he’s trying to be so gentle with her and she’s practically beating the crap out of him

My grandfather was in the military - since I was very young, he taught me all about guns, self-defense, being aware of surroundings at all times, reading people, and helped me train my body and mind to "fight" instead of "freeze/flee" in a real-life situation. I thought it was cool and all, but he always seemed a bit sad when we trained and he once said that he would rather not have to teach me any of it.

I was about 12 when I finally asked him what he meant by that, and he replied, "I wish I could spend more time teaching you how to live instead of how to survive, but people can be horrible and I won't always be here to protect you, so I have no other choice."

Now, I wish I could somehow let him know that his lessons were gold - not only his training, but the values he infused as well. Thank you for everything, Papá J.

I have a daughter, my husbands teaching her striking and I’ve been teaching her defense or breaking attack. She’s only 6 but her daddy and I want her to be smart, strong and effective.

They should absolutely teach this in schools. This is way more important than jumping jacks.

I loved this! He's a very good trainer. And that "calm down, calm down. Aja it's me". Damn, she went in the zone for a moment there! Well done!

I am a Domestic Violence survivor X2 was choked by two different men. One until I was no longer breathing and had to be resuscitated. Your video brought back flashbacks and just watching it made me upset because I was that person who hand someone else’s hands wrapped around my throat. Thank God a family member intervened and help save my life.It was Tough to watch Your video;Had I known the proper moves you just demonstrated to escape his grips my life would be much different today. I suffered years of depression so bad I wanted to take my own life. But to God be the glory I am no longer there and I want to live today, tomorrow and forever more. Although many years have passed flashbacks of what happened to me haunts me. I am in counseling and growing stronger. I joined a jujitsu class yesterday and never again will I give away my power from not knowing how to defend myself. I am taking time now to learn. THANK YOU SO MUCh FOR YOUR VIDEO. I’ve learned so much in such a short period of time watching. I will share it with all women I know. Thank you, thank you. You both were a blessing to me. My goal is to become a black belt and teach other women self defense. I will keep your video with me always.
GOD BLESS YOU BOTH

Now, this is SO TRUE! I have just spent the last 11 months using my basic skills to survive an abusive Addict Boyfriend that disrespected my boundaries, continued to break into my place. I haven't brushed up on my Self Defense skills until I had to use them. I find I don't push to Totally go to dominate in this situation since especially I never knew what level of Crack or Meth was in their body. I am learning not to take on situations most would shy away from, since the basic skills I learned being a Combat Air Traffic Controller back in the day in USAF with tons of formal training, I am 56 now and not really up for the fight. I earned my black belt back when I was 27. These skills are for life.

I want to see these classes offered in Schools, for Woman Groups. It is only going to get worse, there are simple ways to defend yourself. I always tend to protect my ability to flee. That I am no hero except for myself. Join a Self Defense class, or start one and offer those who are financially disadvantaged for free, or barter time most want to pay their way, even if they don't have cash with a skill they do have.
My life is mine again, now, and my BF is finally in jail. I just had to get myself out of a chokehold on the ground with an elbow stuck in my windpipe on Saturday morning. Triple your chin, hook the foot, lift the hips and grab the monkey paw way, push the other elbow to lose their stability, make it so it is a common reaction, remember our enemies are the best teachers of self-defense. You can do it! Since he used both his hands to do this to my throat, that is what helped me, HE had no leverage, even though he was 3 times stronger, and on top of me, although I got out of it, I had to get out of being pinned about 7 more times until I pretended I was passed out, and he dragged me by my hair and laughed and walked away, and said how tuff are you now. DO NOT let a man know just what you know. Playing possum is a great tactic in staying alive, also. Screw your pride and what you think you can do. Peace and Grace and Prayers that you learn and never need to use these skills.

I'm a tall, skinny guy with LOTS of street fights under my belt due to how I look. This is all good advice - forget the "for women" title, this is good stuff for anyone. I took 2 judo lessons when I was 10... I still use those moves today. That first move they show? The Bow and roll out? I've never been taught that - and I have done exactly what they showed as the wrong move - tried to physically fight off my aggressor... this clip is gold dust to anyone living in a city, male or female. Watch and learn, then ask a close friend you trust to go to a park and practice. This next part will be hard... but... if you've never been hit hard in the face and body... ask someone you trust to do it. The biggest fear in a fight is how much it's going to hurt... once you realise you can handle it - the fear is gone. Have someone you like punch you - hard. If you don't bleed, it went wrong. But after that... you will never fear another hit. I would just add that Shins and Knees are very, very acceptable targets, and clapping your hands on both ears of your adversary will stun them long enough to either let you a) kill them or b) run away. Also - especially for the ladies... remember your claws. Men - grow ONE nail way too big... you know why. I'm skinny and obviously I'd prefer to stay out of trouble... but sometimes you have to defend yourself, or more importantly, others - strangers. Get self defence training, and first aid. That really should be a school requisite. Most of my injuries I picked up defending total strangers. Proud of all them.

I'm currently writing a book about a woman who has a stalker after her. Her love interest is a protection specialist and is teaching her self-defense. I found the video and thought it fits what I need. I fully plan for my character to use some of the techniques from this video. I'm also putting links in the book to the video. More women should learn this.

I wish our school taught us this instead of that boring games period where they don't even bother to make us play some actual hardcore sports
