I work in a hotel and we have a iptv system which broadcasts multicast channels across one of the vlans. Interestingly you mentioned about devices subscribing to the stream.
If the switch isnt setup for igmp queueing you sent the traffic whether or not the device subscribes or not. You end up flooding every port with multicast traffic.

Thanks. But why/how is the pc sending the multicast out the multicast IP address? Are devices just always sending the signals out, and end hosts just need to request, or is there a specific service running on the PC causing the sending? (Hopefully my question makes sense).
