Yes, the centrifugal and spool tension names are wrong on the baitcasting reel. However, the methods explained for adjusting the fishing reel, regardless of what you call each reel component, are still correct. Therefore, this video is still accurate and valuable.

Yes, I accidentally transposed the names of the centrifugal and spool tension names. Oops! LOL!!!

As others have said; I actually watched AND physically made the adjustments to my bait caster, at the same time.
As an absolute beginner, with a bait caster, your video saved me from cutting my rod in half to fit in the trash can.
The WRIST angle - as you would shake someone's hand", invaluable.
- Brake vs. side tension dial - invaluable.
Thanks for taking the time to shoot this Edu vid!

I am 59 years old. Been fishing for over 50 years. Never got into baitcaster reel's. Always used spin casters or close faced reel's. My buddy at work got me Quantum Pulse Bait caster for learning how to use one. He got the Black Max baitcaster put it on a Berkley Cherry wood baitcaster rod. I chose a 6'6 Ugly Stick medium heavy bait caster rod. He adjusted my reel high up so I could learn how to thumb the reel. We let it back lash so I could learn how to fix the backlash's. I still use the spin cast reel and rod for crankbaits and spinner baits and such. But my baitcaster is for jigs and Senko's mostly. It took a good hour to learn to throw side arm and thumb the reel. But I got the hang of it and loosened the dial from 10 to 6. I started casting farther and farther. Catching Bass in his Honey hole pond. Fished all season with both reel's and rod's. Installed 20 pound braid on the bait caster. By seasons end got pretty good with the bait caster. Moving up to the Quantum ACCURIST PT S3. For next seasons fishing. Will stay with the Ugly Stick medium heavy bait caster rod too. Keep at it! You will catch on! Shawn

I just got a contemporary bait caster, after a 50-year absence from fishing. My first bait caster was a solid brass “level wind” number with no freespool feature.... When you cast...EVERYTHING went round. I tried to master that thing for weeks in my yard with a practice plug, with little success.... Till I read an article in Field & Stream about using your thumb as a brake.... Instant miracle! I could actually cast with the thing!
My parents relented and bought me an Abu-Garcia “Ambassador 5000” for Xmas.... One of the best available at the time. (1962-ish)

The best instructional video I've seen on baitcasting. Every little detail you included is so important and spot on. Not a single word was uttered that was unnecessary or didn't make sense. Thank you for the video, please, we'd love to see more!

Just got my first bass baitcaster setup after work tonight after using spinners and push buttons since as far back as I can remember. I was a bit confused about how the various brakes worked in unison (I got the Abu Garcia SilverMax 2), and this cleared it up a ton. I figured the magnetic and the centrifugal on mine did the same damn thing in a way, but boy was I totally unsure. Thanks to your video, I am gonna be screwing up less this weekend. Thank you for this! Best explanation on the web!

Hand position! OMG you have no idea how invaluable that one little tip just saved me hours of untangling my reel. I can't believe how it made that much of a difference!

Thank you very much for this. I'm new to baitcasters and was doing pretty much everything you said not to and have got quite a bit of practice picking out bird nests because of it. I'm looking forward to going over to the canal later today to practice what you taught me.

After experimenting with my new baitcaster, I find that side casting is much more accurate and easier.

Thank you for those clear and useful tips. I have only tried a baitcaster once and I was horrible at it. Now I know why. Looking forward to getting reacquainted with mine and learning how to use it.

Hello Glenn and thank you for all of your typically great instructional videos. I am still pretty new to baitcaster reels myself, having only used them for maybe a couple of years at the most so far, so I'm not trying to be negative or a "know-it-all" by any means by making this comment... but I feel that this is very important to point out so that no other newbies get confused in the baitcaster world. When you refer to the "pin" braking system that is opposite to the reel handle, that is actually called the CENTRIFUGAL braking system... and what you refer to as the centrifugal braking knob is actually the "SPOOL TENSION CONTROL knob". Everything that you said about what those parts do, what part of the cast they control and how you should adjust them was true though. I just don't want others to get them confused by mismatching the names of the specific controls because I started to second guess myself when I heard you call them what you did. Again, I'm not hating on you, just trying to clear things up for those that may have gotten confused like I started to. Perhaps you could do an updated vid with corrections of this later. Thanks!
