The Peak Of Mediocrity | A Need For Speed 2015 Critique

Need For Speed 2015 was an interesting prodigy. Ghost Games themselves seemed to be unsure of what direction to take the series after Rivals, and when it came to develop the next game in the series, they ditched everything that made Rivals good and started from the ground up. And how did this turn out? Well, let's just say its not my favorite in the series. In this video I go over why I feel NFS 2015 was flawed, but also how it created a failed structure for the future of the series.

I think a more appropriate title for this game should have been "Need For Speed: Ohio"

2015 has a good place in my heart. If didn't have the worst handling possible, could be a classic. The atmosphere, cusomization, graphics and car list are great... And had Toyota

I love the map, it's small but doesn't actually feel soulless like FH5's map and thanks to the "GTA V ultra realistic redux mode" graphics, I think they still hold up very well, setting the whole game at night ONLY was a smart choice from both technical and aesthetic standpoints cause the feeling of driving R32 GT-R alone at night in empty city and cruising down some tight serpents is uncomparable to any other racing game I have ever played, straight up vibes

I actually loved this game, it actually reminded me of underground era and i had good fun playing an nfs game after so long.

Personally 2015 is one of my favourites can't fully explain why just that it is, the handling definitely needed to be better and the customization was annoying being locked behind certain things but outside of those two things I'm fine or enjoy it. And hopefully live action cutscenes come back as personally I hate how NFS unbound looks

They made the single best looking NFS game ever just to completely shit on all the other aspects and abandon the artstyle forever

NFS 2015 imo has so much wasted potential. Like you said if the handling, cops, customization and map was more fleshed out it could’ve been a heavy hitter. Makes me wonder if the development was rushed

I just love the fact that Morohoshi-san is in the game, so the Outlaw storyline and the dark overall Tokyo'esque art style made this game really memorable for me, despite the weird physics.

I still think, to this day, that need for speed doesn't need a dynamic time of day.

Hand crafting a game world for a single time of day and atmosphere is such a great way to absolutely nail both a 'vibe' and the visuals.

People cried for Underground 3 for years than they kinda got it with 2015 and people still shit on it. The devs realy did so much what the community wanted. The physics were still ass

5:47 I do remember this being talked about and people did complain about it back in 2015, maybe not as much as they did about rivals but they totally did.
-Always online
-The stupid long loading times
-The handling
Were the 3 main complaints

For me this game is a piece of art, love the music, the atmosphere, the characters.

You had me on "NFS is Style over Substance" which I did typed that to someone few weeks ago,
and I agree with NFS15 cutscenes thats start growing on me, hell it wasn't cringe enough to be FH5 cutscenes these day

Rivals was not online only, though.
Yes there was no pause button, but you don't need to be connected to EA servers or to the internet at all to play, unlike 2015.
While it may not make much of a difference now, in the future 2015 will be unplayable after EA shuts the servers, and Rivals will remain playable.

NFS 2015 was interesting one for my experience. Like they had so many good ideas on paper but it either didn't work or was poorly done. Plus it didn't help the fact that Ghost was still a small studio after Rivals. While it was true that Ghost Games developed Rivals, you're forgetting that Criterion was the main developers of Rivals and Ghost were the co-developers. Stepping that aside, with how this game turned out, it proves that Criterion should've continued to be the main developers of NFS and depending what happens with Ghost, they can continue being the co-developers or have them work on a different game that isn't racing related.

Wait, there are people who DEFENDED this game's always-online nature? Seriously?!!

I genuinely thought it was the one thing that was unanimously disliked.

If it had better handling and the option of playing without needing internet connection, it would be a modern classic. I absolutely loved this game

I finally played this one and as a Porsche fan I picked up my 911 GT3. But no matter how hard I try, the physics won't let me corner at a decent level for a Porsche.

some very interesting things about this game after playing it recently

- if your internet is bad, you get unlimited nitrous (basically all the time if your aussie)
- the AI ruberbands in every single mode, including the time trials. making it so you HAVE to sandbag or else deal with an impossible time to beat
- You unlock a prestige mode after beating the main story, and the difficulty spike is attrocious. you could have a max upgraded ferrari F40 with unlimited nitrous and still struggle to hit the bronze star, let alone gold which is often 30+ seconds faster. Most people in the NFS community highly recomend certain builds and call prestige mode a bunch of crap for a reason.
- cops are really so bad it takes 8~ minutes to reach heat 4 (never been chased long enough to reach max heat) where they *might* send 2 or 3 cars after you with some pathetic roadblocks. but most of the time it will be one lonely officer, who may even run away from you (scary job i know)

I love NFS 2015. It is the closest game to Underground we got since Underground 2 and probably will be the only game to. My only complaint was the physics which could have been fixed if they just focused on Grip or B2D rather than trying to incorporate both and master none.
