Matt isn't wearing a dark grey shirt, he might actually have had his life completely changed.

Since becoming a parent Matt videos appear (to me atleast) to be so much more vulnerable, and honest. I love it, they’ve always been good but seeing this side (atleast more than before) is amazing. The out takes about the speech difficulties has me in tears. Love it.

13:19 "It is not your task to make someone like you. It's not your task to prevent someone from feeling upset." This distribution of tasks concept completely shifted my perspective! I've spent so much energy trying to control how others perceive me, when I should have been focusing on living according to my values instead. Thanks for introducing me to Adler's wisdom - just ordered the book!

0:57 - PROBLEM #1 - We constantly compare ourselves to others

12:05 - PROBLEM #5 - We try to control other people
14:51 - PROBLEM #6 - We let the past define us

One of the most powerful books I've read.

I was always worried about what other people thought about me. One idea in this book goes like 'what other people think about you is not your problem. It's theirs. If they judge you, it is as if they are judging themselves. You cannot do anything to change their mentality or judgement. They have to do it themselves. If you've done the best you can, and still the other person thinks you're uncool or that you're a bad person, there's nothing you can do.'

Because I was facing a big self worth problem back then, this struck me. It has completely transformed the way I think about myself and others (if I don't like how a person dresses or talks or conducts himself, it's my problem and not theirs).

I don't remember anything else about the book but hey, that's what books are for. One quote or one idea is enough. ❤

Matt. That section about speaking clear and well thought sentences hit home, hard. When you showed the "bloopers" of you trying to say one thing over and over again, it helped drive the point even deeper. You were one of my "Peter", "Casey" or "Oli"'s. And you taught me that even you struggle to put these things together, it doesn't happen in a single shot, your editing isn't some absolutely perfected process and neither is your writing or speaking.

I'm just trying to say, it helped me, a lot more than I can put in to words.

Thank you

This book really does have that quiet kind of power. The idea that so much of our suffering comes from needing to be liked... whew. It reminded me a lot of The Power of Unshakable Self-Worth by Caden Rivers (got it on mindBloomery btw). That one helped me to stop tying my value to how people see me and finally focus on how I see myself. Both books have been therapy sessions I didn't know I needed.

Matt, I just hope you know that the same way you look up to all your YouTube giants. There are so many of us that look up to you in the exact same way. You are one of the greats and have been for a while now! A Beautiful video, for such a powerful book.

I read this when I was 15 and it transformed me. I reread it this year, 5 years later, and it is awesome to see how much I have grown based on what I used to annotate and what I now have annotated. My mom gifted this book to me in Dutch because she liked the title better "de moed jezelf te zijn", which means "the courage to be yourself"

The trauma part reminds me of one of my favorite quotes of all time….. life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

My favorite YouTuber covering my favorite book. 'Tis a great day. I am re-listening to this book my 5th time. I first listened to it last year. Your interpretation of its wisdom is helping me learn even more from it. Thank you Matt!

I picked up this book on your recommendation and it's one of the most thought-provoking books I've read in a while. As someone who has spent the last 4 years dealing with my past, I am well versed in the language of trauma. Adler's philosophy has challenged a lot of my views surrounding trauma, one's past, and how they shape us.

Needed this so much today. I just found out today I didn’t get the promotion I was up for at work, and I feel like the content/personal brand is stagnant, which is compounding and putting me in some funk…

This was so good man. Thanks for being you!

I've read this book 3 times, I always find myself grounded after it. The separation of tasks is what I find so important, that and the idea of everything being subjective, including trauma

Thank you for being so authentic in this video, so proud of you for being more open and vulnerable.
I’ve been a long time follower and always loved your content and style. Even though I am not as productive as you are and I couldn’t apply all your tricks, I enjoy every thought you put out there. I hope you keep believing in yourself, we sure do! ❤
