Ask a Therapist: What is Heteronormativity?

Показать описание
Heteronormativity is the assumption that all people are born heterosexual. It also assumes people are born Cisgender, Monogamous, and with desire for the "opposite" sex.

Heteronormativity is woven into so many areas of our lives. It informs how people respond to us, how they see us, and what they expect from us. It also informs how we see ourselves. In this week's Ask a Therapist video, we learn how to recognize the assumptions that Heteronormativity puts on our lives, and how to move past them.

"Only one way to have sex. How boring." Yes. I hope you're right, some day we will live in a society where we can let people live their lives as they see fit. <3 This video was quite encouraging to me. Thank you.

As someone that is “questioning”, this video checked off a lot of boxes for how I grew up. I am also excited to explore life outside of heteronormativity.

I’m just infuriated that those who “offer” unconditional love actually are the most hatful people on this planet.
Plus, that unconditional love?
That’s actually very much conditional.

That must of been the reason why when I became a single woman every married man (they were ALL Christians) came knocking on my door asking me to be their mistress. Almost all of them told me their wives didn't like sex. One of them told me, oh, he's good enough to be my friend, but not my lover! I said, you're married! I told all of them they are suppose to know better than I, (the atheist) that is wrong.
My mother told me, the same thing, when she became single, but she left out the word Christian, She said all the married men came knocking on her door. She was Catholic herself. All I know is it has always been a red flag for me, when people tell me they are Christian. It never fails!
They always talk about everything you stated and more. The one's I've known. Chirstianity has made me psychotic for life, after all the gaslighting they did and the rest of what they have done is not forgivable. There is nothing they wouldn't do, to try to convert me.
I am an agoraphobic mentally ill old woman, and they were telling me how they had the cure. Someone named Jesus, was going to solve everything and give me peace. On the contrary, he makes me sick. That is what their god does for me.
Thank you for your video's. You always confirm what I have heard.

I whould like I probably not the only one who would find this helpful is a video on how to deal with feeling like an emposter as a Bisexual. Like for example being hetro romantic and having a preference for the opposite sex yet still finding your sex sexality attractive .

Do you have a video about the societies that acknowledge more than 2 genders? That would be really cool to know more about

Wow, where is God in your viewpoint? We are a warped deviant society. We are in endtimes, God loves everyone. Accepts all souls. BUT if you don't have him in your heart, he will be wrathful. Let go of all your misguided truths. Your definitions are alined with Darkness and not Love.. Seek Jesus
