Make a Lamp from an Orange in 1 minute.

How to make a simple oil lamp with two standard household items. You will need an orange (fruit) and olive oil. This will enable us to create our own lamp in case of a power outage. No electricity needed and fun to make.

We will show you how the stem of the orange will act as the wick and will actually last 6-8 hours. To add a nice effect use the top of the cut off orange as a shield. You may even get a natural citrus smell as a bonus. Who needs those 20 dollar expensive candles anyway?

No oranges used a mandarin worked really well even though i used corn oil instead and the wick was like one inch tall but it burned for 4 hours!

Nah m8, this wouldn't take 1 minute, it would take 5 hours to make a makeshift knife, 3 years to raise an orange tree and 7 years to grow an olive tree.

I tried twice, but it didn't work. Any ideas why? The wick ended up lighting both times after a long wait, but it quickly burnt out afterwards.

I followed every step, put oil on the wick, and then kept the flame on it for as long as it took to light, then nothing.

That would be handy in NJ, USA. When The hurricane Sandy hit, and if I knew THIS method sooner, I would have saved a few candles... -_-

Hi, I did actually try this and it works, you just missed out that after a while the bottom gets hot.

AMAZING! 6-8 hours is a good long life for a candle such as this. Plus you get a snack. I bet it smells really good...esp if you use that extra peel as a wind guard. It would be gently heated by the flame and shouldn't catch fire as long as it isn't too close.
