Between you, Kirsty Meakin, and Anastasia from Nailcou, I have learned so much! I started out doing my own nails using nail polish and now I work with gel polish, builder gel, acrygel, and dip powder. I’m also getting more comfortable using an e-file. I’m excited to say that at the age of 42, I’ve enrolled in nail school!

I'm a man that never cared for doing nails but I have a wife that I love to pamper. I don't have the finance to always get her nails done so I am on this quest to learn to do her nails myself. It is almost 3 in the morning and I'm practicing on my nails while watching your videos so I can at least buff her nails tomorrow (I guess this would be called buffing nails). I just did my thumbnail and it is shining like I put on some polish or whatever. I don't know how to do cuticles yet and am kind of scared to do it because I'm afraid I'll hurt her nails. Anyway, I'm so ready to get off work tomorrow to do this buffing work on her nails. I don't care about the macho type attitude when it comes to giving my wife the best so I'm going to learn to do these nails. At least till I can pay to keep them done consistently. Thank you so much for this video

Hi Suzie! I don't use any nail enhancements but I love your content so much! I know these "purely educational" videos may not get as many views as your beautiful nail art tutorials, but these videos really feel like the cornerstone of your channel. Thank you for being such a great educator and sharing the wisdom of your experience with us! :)

Thank you so much! This was very informative and helpful. It’s so overwhelming at first. I’m just practicing while I save for school. I also just had surgery for tennis elbow and need to be using the right files for the job because I don’t have the strength in my elbow to be messing around.

I’ve been watching your videos for the last few years since I started dipping my own nails!! I learned how to shape almonds from your sharpie technique! And I just went back to almond and used the technique to ensure I was filing them into the almond shape correctly!! So thank you!!!

Oh my gosh! Thank you so much for making this video. I'm in the process of doing my own acrylic nails and each day I learn more from you. I had a lot of doubts with the hand files and which one to use, and you completely broke it down for me. Thank you so much, you're awsome🧡

Ohhh thank you !!!! I needed this video!!!! I completely have filed my nails away from filing without the knowledge of how. While my nails are healing and growing back I’ve dedicated myself to learning as much as possible before I touch my nails again. Of course I was fortunate enough to come across your channel first and through you I’ve learned about others In the industry that have taught me much. I’m always coming back to your channel where I started to see what you’ve posted, I just really learn so much from you, you break it down so simply especially since I’m just a diy I only do my own nails not looking to have a business or nail salon I just want to have chance to do my own nails. As a mom of a special needs son it’s my “me” time. Thank you Susie for all your videos, and a special thank you for always answering my questions personally, I truly am so grateful for you. Sending peace & blessings & love. Jenn L. California

I LOVE an 80/80 sponge file! I use the Enail Couture files. I also love the 80/80 hard files.(Haven’t tried yours, but I’m sure they’re great!) I had to learn filing through trial and error through the years. Filing is my favorite.💗♥️

I’m always using the buffer before the application no matter if I use gel or acrylics. I never had lifting issues in more than 20 years. But I found out that it depends a lot of the quality of the material you use. I used cheaper gels and monomers and had lifting. But with the acid primer and high quality material - no lifting at all. I learned that a big reason for lifting is also, when you work too close to the cuticle area or don’t file it correctly. I see this all the time with beginners or students. Many are simply afraid to file so close to the cuticle area. Once they lose that fear - lifting is not much of an issue then.
De-sharpening the files is very important!! Thank you for mentioning it.
Great video.

Wow you are amazing for sharing your knowledge I’m new to learning how to do my own nails. I’ve been watching your videos and learning so much. I’m starting with poly gel as a beginner then builder gel then acrylic later on. I had no idea about files but it answered so many questions on why I had lifting and my polish wouldn’t last long. Thank you so much for breaking down the different grit numbers and what application they use, loved your example of sand paper for wood crafts and panting, makes so much sense. I bought an efile but from your other video I’ll practice that with a practice finger before I try it on my hand for safety, and will use hand files until I can move on to the efile. Thank you so much for all your videos and sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us. Your my nail technician professor 😊

Oh yay! I had mentioned making a video like this on a video a while back! I had also been curious about glass files and their use and what they are good for.
