Andrea Kimi Antonelli's first ever FP1 session didn't quite go to plan. Into the wall at Parabolica after just 12 minutes. Is this a sign he's getting promoted too soon, or just part of an inevitable learning experience? Let's talk about it.

To answer the question - no, he’s new and he’ll learn

I do not think we should worry for a second. Lewis Hamilton crashed his McLaren in 2007 in their first test and look how his career turned out.

The amount of people praying for his downfall is insane rn. F1 fans always talk about wanting new drivers and then they crucify them immediately when they enter. I wish Antonelli the best and hope the crash doesn't affect his confidence too much

He never binned it during his private test session with Mercedes right? Plus a lot of drivers had offs in FP1, to me there’s not much to be worried about

Felt bad for him, being 18 and having that huge pressure must have been really difficult for him

Kimi wasnt the only one to have issues with that exact corner. I dont think we can make any assessments just yet

I only have one takeaway from that crash, Kimi is not a driver to take things slow, he will put it all on the line straightaway.
And if he continues to be like this, the frequency of those crashes will define his career. He’ll either be Senna or he’ll be Grosjean!

Nah, that Parabolica is spicier than ever, though it was impressive that Colapinto didn't crash there

Toto’s face was worth the entire ordeal
You can literally read his thoughts:
“ Max I beg you “
lol

It's not too early for Antonelli, it's too early for people to put expectations on him. That tends to be the real issue for youth in elite level sports.

George Russell will be worried about the damage to his car at least

Um, no. The big learning curve is feeling out a new surface that differs from you sim practice, gaining an understanding for the characteristics of a car you have never sat in before, assessing the predictability of down force levels of an aero package that has never been track tested, and having all of an hour to digest all of that: plus changing grip from tire deg and compounds, utilizing driver control functions, engineering communications, on and on.
Then you give it the bizzo.
They told him where the pedals were, and sent him out. Some big lessons they all learned, huh.

2:14 Tommo did not, in fact, put a link to the full lap in the description.

He will learn and it will take some time... as Sensei Wu from Ninjago once said: "Patience"

Watching him in F2 makes me think he needs another year. Clearly talented, but he doesn't stand out like he was expected to. Let him fail in F2 or actually be ready for F1 in 2026

Can’t wait to see your video on Bortoletto’s crash in F2 qualifying, and your 30 minute analysis on the Colapinto spin. I’m salivating at the thought of all the spicy takes you’ll drop on the Nylander crash too.

This video feels like waffling for 10 minutes on a topic there is really nothing to say about. Sometimes people spin and crash when driving F1 cars, today it was an 18 year old who was driving this version for the first time.

I just hope this isn’t an early preview of what the overall F1 YouTube and media circus will be around Antonelli, because if so Christ above it’ll be annoying

He needs a year more in F2, the kid crumbled the moment he could, his mentality is nowhere near Max's in 2015

It's the exact same story as Max's debut, but with ONE HUGE DIFFERENCE: the buzz around a new prodigy, the huge anticipation, the rush to get him in F1, the crash tendency cause of the inexperiance. But this time, the audience is MUCH BIGGER: the buzz is louder, the pressure is heavyer, the media are more interested, the community is all over the social networks.

He doesn't deserve the seat, yet, he needs another year in f2, meanwile, giving Vesti a go for a year

I thinks it's too soon for him, even without this crash. He should get a bit more practice time in F2 and at Merc as a reserve or something.
