Couldn't the first case be a little more simply explained by just treating the roots as exponents? 2^1/3 * 2^1/2 = 2^(3/6 + 2/6) = 2^(5/6) = sixth root of 2^5, as you demonstrate. Different bases don't come together so nicely for the second example, unfortunately.

I find this example misleading. Once you multiply 3 radicals with different indices, you can't just multiply their indices. You should get their LCM.
