Something to add to the robe part. They only wear the red robes when "On Loan" to those outside the Mechanicus. When operating inside their own jurisdictions they were robes specific to their sect within the Mechanicus. Ordo Biologus wears White robes with Red trim for example.

In Vainglorious, the latest Ciaphas Cain novel, there's a high ranking tech priest who is the head of a new admech colony world. He has a CAT called "Rolo" that scurries around through trapdoors delivering holographic messages.

My favorite thing about the admech is how they seem like crazy/stupid techno-cultists at first, then you realize a lot of their rituals involve actual maintenance, THEN you realize that machine spirits are absolutely a thing and that the tech priests 100% know what they're doing.

Even the whole "no innovation" thing they have going on is done because Chaos has fucked them over a few times by getting them to build things that furthers their cause.
