Red dot finders are wildly underrated for astrophotography. Everyone talks about finder scopes but red dot finders are so much faster and easier to use.

This is great. Both a beginner-friendly and an absolutely purist way to do it, what a rare set of circumstances, and congratulations on nailing it, that's not a given.

10:52 dark skies are really insane man, getting a picture like that of orion after 30 seconds of integration 😭

What an incredibly interesting project. I have never thought of trying a messier marithon with just a DSLR and lens. Maybe I should try this! Though, I think that fast lens is paramount for this. I think it would be significantly more difficult with my Canon 70-300mm kit lens.

Never really thought a Messier Marathon was within my grasp, but after the article in the last issue of S&T and this video, I think that with good prep and dark skies, I can do it!

I was shocked to see the Horsehead nebula so clearly on the M42 shot!
Really cool marathon, awesome job Nico!
And at some point I 5 must have seen like 15 satellites in a single framing video, insane!

Hi Nico. I did the Marathon the same night, with my rig at Starfront. I got images of all but three. Two because of the difficulty at dusk and dawn, and one operator error. Nice intro to the MM and sounds like a really fun trip!

Your channel is probably the best overall astrophotography youtube channel. You are out there doing all sorts of cool things like this, or putting together huge comparisons either software or telescopes and your observatory videos are amazing too! Keep up the good and different work!

I wasn't really aware of the real quantity of satellites passing through every minute. But anyway! Great vibe, great video! Thanks!

Amazing content! Honestly I am very impressed of what f2.8 and bortle 1 skies can do in just 30 seconds. Keep it up.

Awesome you did that and filmed the whole thing for us! Congrats! I'd love to see more of the photos and the data about how they were shot, such as shutter speed, ISO, etc. I have I similar camera setup so I might give this a shot

Daamn! It is so awesome, I've tried this marathon last year with my old junky telescope and only saw 92 of them and I missed rest of them because of my very bad ordering. Congratulations man, nice work! Your video kind of encouraged me to try it again next year with better planning.

Very cool, Nico! This looked like a fun adventure, thanks for bringing us along! Seeing you under the stars in New Mexico definitely gave me nostalgia. I hope I can get back there soon!

In on single night you connect with tens of diverse astronomical objects, of wide diversity of nature, size and age, in and out of our own galaxy, and in all possible (northern) directions. And all that with simple gear. What a ride!

Very cool, Nico! We had a Messier Marathon scheduled at ATMOB but got clouded out. I think we got clouded out the last two years as well. I need to schedule my own one of these years.

Clear skies!

Damn, that bortle 1 is really something, I mean it's so amazing the amount of data it showed in just 32" of exposure.

I am amazed by your knowledge of the Night Sky. I suffer even with asiair and guiding.
I would really love a video about guiding, like Star peak numbers, how to find the right exposure and step size, and where to calibrate etc.
