Another way to spot a hobby killer is when they say that the telescope has like 525 power or something like that and if they include like a 4mm eyepiece and a 3x Barlow

My first Teleskope had all redflags 💀😂

I had one of these "hobby killers" as a kid. Many years later I am still into astronomy. Somehow it didn't "kill" the hobby for me!

Here's another rule if you're buying a REFLECTOR be sure it has a parabolic mirror.

Also need to check if the tube looks shorter than the advertised focal length, to avoid getting a bird eye jones kind of crap

This isn't always guaranteed but another way to spot a hobby killer (if your on amazon) is to pay attention to the title of the telescope it may just something like 70mm 400 focal length but no brand name.

I ordered a telescope that has a 80mm aperature and a focal length of 500mm, it also came with a 25mm and a 10mm eyepieces and a 3x barlow lens, Ive seen multiple tutorial videos on how to use it and how to look at all the planets, I was able to see the moon pretty up close including its craters using the barlow lens with the 10mm eyepiece, mesmerizing experience, but then I pointed it towards Jupiter, I was able to see it along with its moons with the barlow and the 10mm eyepiece but I couldn't see any of its features, it was just white like a star, tried focusing it but I'm pretty sure that it was at its magnefication limit since it was getting really blurry, I don't know if my telescope is powerful enough to see any of its features or if im doing something wrong, I've tried many times but it always turned out the same, but thanks for the tips!! 👍

Interesting points. I own a StarSense 130 AZ. The rod's you mentioned in #5 are perfect for focusing and finding object's when looking through the eye piece. Its shocking how sensitive and useful they are as opposed to moving the scope manually.

I have a Starsense Explorer 80az that I got for christmas. Looking to upgrade, have any recommendations? I'm mostly looking to see planets and the moon in great detail. Possibly Andromeda and nebulae. I really love taking photos and I have an adapter for it. My budget is maximum 600$.

i see many great scopes under 100mm aperature, one of hundreds of examples would be the redcat 51

Why not start with an EQ mount? It's easier to follow objects

Can you provide web links to buy a good telescope ( price ranging from low to high)?

What do you think about the celestron starsense explorer DX 130AZ?

What do you think of the Celestron NexStar SLT 6 as a starting telescope? I'm looking for something portable in case I decide to upgrade in the future. With a budget of 1500 euros, I plan to invest in a power bank and a complete beginner’s set with filters and optics. Does this seem like a good approach?

my first telescope i got for my birthday from my dad and he actually used 2 telescopes one for the tripod and one for the tube (still one of my hobbies today) it was a really professional telescope

My first scope was a gift, seems like it has all the flags and it’s awesome and I’ve taken cool photos of the moon and stars with my cellphone 😂

Personally I still put finderscopes on my telescopes rather than red dot ones 😂
