Spain, 1468: In a land where Christians, Muslims, and Jews have lived in tolerance for centuries, a young Spanish king and queen, Ferdinand II Aragon and Isabella I of Castile, proclaim themselves the Catholic monarchs and start an inquisition, now known as the Spanish Inquisition. This is the shocking story of the religious upheaval that lasted 56 years.

Based on previously unreleased secret documents from European Archives including the Vatican, Secret Files of the Inquisition unveils the incredible true story of the Catholic Church's 500-year struggle to remain the world's only true Christian religion. It traces Catholicism's determination to maintain power at any cost in medieval France, 15th century Spain, Renaissance Italy and even into the 19th century. Historians, experts and Church authorities advise on the handling of this controversial subject matter.

Welcome to Chronicle; your home for all things medieval history! With documentaries covering everything from the collapse of the Roman Empire to the beginnings of the Renaissance, from Hastings to Charlemagne, we'll be exploring everything the Middle Ages have to offer.

Jesus said: "love one another as I have loved you". He said:" treat one another as you want to be treated yourself."
So simple and beautiful, yet human arrogance and selfishness has made everything complicated and unjust.

These docs always make me ask myself if I would have had the nerve to stand up to the bigoted church. The rebel in me says I would, but the distance of 500 years makes that easy to say.

People who are tortured will say any and anything. It’s crazy how many people died because of forced confessions.

read rather Cecil Roth's "A history of the Marranos", it is excellent, and explains how the Inquisition actually had roots in the 1390-ties, partially in Portugal

It’s sad to think what atrocities people will do for the sake of their “religion”. When it is actually their own twisted logic and interpretation of that religion. Guess they hadn’t heard the words “ love thy neighbor”.

Both Helen Rawlings and Harry Kamen have written books charting the history of the Inquisition in the last 10 years free from all the hyperbole of this those who like thier history with some kind of truth

Sounds like the King and Queen never learned that they were supposed to love their neighbor.

I have to wonder why the Catholic church has not recanted the Sainthood of Pedro de Arbués. I understand up til now there is no process for this action, but you would think harboring this horrid person under the cloak of sainthood would encourage the church to figure something out.

Mostly the Messianic Jews were burned being that the Catholic Church saw them as heretical. Jews were not Christian and did not fall under the law as much until 1492

Nobody* expects the Spanish Inquisition! Our chief weapon is surprise, surprise and fear, fear and surprise. Our *two* weapons are fear and surprise, and ruthless efficiency. Our *three* weapons are fear and surprise and ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical dedication to the pope.

The CEO of the Catholic church, aka the Pope at the time, actually declared them the Catholic monarchs of Christendom. Also, her name is Isabel, not Isabella. For some reason, they Italianized her name (giving it the bella at the end). Just watched an entire lecture on Queen Isabel from a Spanish scholar, Dr. Emma Marron. I suggest watching her talks about the women of the House of Trastamara.

Cinfa and others like her were victims of horrible circumstances, just for believing differently it sadly cost many their lives in Spain, not just Jews but even Muslims but Jews did bear the brunt of it. Its horribly sad, I have seen cinfa's inquisition docs which are located in aragon's archives from zaragoza. Her husband Jaco Zunti as it is written in the documents of course died. I do believe Cinfa died also later on. Her trial took place around 1482 which was 10 years prior to the edict of expulsion which I wish the documentary had shed light on. Many of those that died also died in the years prior to the alhambra decree.

1- There is an old and wise Spanish adage that says that the paper holds everything they'd write on it, whether true or not, and that saying has been updated now in modern times to say that not only paper but film and video tape too, like this Hellywood tall tale of revisionist history and leftoid PROGpaganda, for never mind that on both sides of the Pyrennees the Basques, probably the oldest people in Europe, since theirs is a pre Indo European language, had been living for ever but also across those mountains came the Germanic Barbarian and Gothic tribes who after establishing in Hispania their Northern kingdoms and converting to Christianity finally accepting the Nicene Credo, believed by 99% of Christians today (appropriately enough, ''forced'' on all Romans by their emperor Theodosius ''The Great'', a Spaniard himself) they went on to build many churches and cathedrals, included The Cathedral of Seville'' THE BIGGEST GOTHIC CATHEDRAL IN THE WHOLE OF EUROPE.
2- Since nothing says ''European'' more than those marvelous Temples of God, said Catedral de Sevilla, a registered UNESCO '' World Heritage Site'' included, I would recommend this video's producers and writers to visit it and SEE its magnificent beauty with their own eyes .
3- For if they only knew... (los Varela de Galicia like mi Trinidad). Shema!!!.
