The roots of your teeth do more than just hold your teeth in place: they also stimulate the bone beneath the gums. When teeth are missing, there is nothing beneath the gums to preserve the bone. This lack of stimulation can lead to bone loss (also called resorption) in and around the jaw. At Arizona Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in Tucson, AZ, and Oro Valley, AZ, we offer bone grafting procedures to restore lost bone. Without adequate quality or quantity of bone tissue, it is impossible to place dental implants safely and securely. Additionally, bone loss can lead to dental shifting, changes in your facial structure, and other problems. Bone grafting is meant to restore bone that has deteriorated or been removed because of tooth loss, facial injuries, tumor surgery, or other causes. Our oral surgeons have years of experience performing a variety of different bone grafting procedures.

Dental implants are small, medical-grade titanium posts that act as a new root to support a single new tooth or multiple new teeth. Dental implants are long-lasting, integrated or fused to the jaw bone in a manner similar to a tooth. Unlike other tooth replacement options, dental implants can be placed the same day the existing teeth are removed to quickly restore your smile. Your implants are firmly affixed, do not shake loose, and can last a lifetime.

Dr. Nicholas Coles is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon who has been practicing for over 10 years. He decided to pursue oral surgery after being exposed to dentistry through his family. He attended Utah State University for his undergraduate studies. After his undergraduate studies, he attended Creighton University School of Dentistry in Omaha, Nebraska, where he graduated in 2007. Dr. Coles finished a four-year oral and maxillofacial residency program at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. This hands-on oral surgery training program gave him real-world experience working with patients and performing procedures. After completing his residency program in 2012, he began practicing with Dr. Wood at Arizona Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

"I had fractured my tooth, and it had required a implant and bone graft. The staff here is very friendly. When you come in, they greet you at the door. Dr. Coles is very friendly, and he's reassuring. He went through every step of the process with me, informed me of what would go on in the recovery time. My surgery went very smooth. I came in, I went back, and I don't remember the rest. There was very little recovery time. It was a great experience. Everyone on the staff was very friendly, and he was a great doctor. As a dental professional, I would highly recommend Dr. Coles."
