Lost Key | Survival Tip for Remote Areas

Let's discuss how your magnetos ground! Keep in mind actually trying this is hazardous and this is only for systems knowledge and entertainment purposes. Before trying anything you see on YouTube, consult your CFI for the legality and safety of it (and use common sense). Flying an airplane with snipped P-leads is a good idea when your other option is imminent death, at all other times it is likely a poor choice.

A NOTE ABOUT THE AIRPLANE... This aircraft is deregistered, and due to serious structural damage , not airworthy. As this aircraft was destined to be scrapped in the junkyard, we wanted to give it one last purpose in life as an instructional aid to more effectively educate the aviation community on topics that could otherwise not be demonstrated, with the primary objective being to increase flight safety.

Thanks for the vid, Jon.
Still couldn't quite understand WHAT did that blade bridge when you touched the relay, tho.

OK.
1. I've got to get two more keys made. One, I'm gonna hide in my airplane. The second is gonna be in my wallet. And the third is for use.
2. It's curious to me that you didn't get a poke from jumping the relay.
3. Pretty sure you can jump start the engine by jumping the ignition switch as well.
4. Since you're destroying the airplane, can I buy those restraining harnesses from you?
5. This is good stuff, and great content.

Be sure to do a segment regarding hand propping your airplane.
You know, just in case you are 500 miles from home, at an airport without an A&P and your starter decided to die.
Yeah...it happened to me.

So how do I unlock the door and get into the plane? The owner locked his door so I can’t get in and I already started the plane.

Great video, any advice on jumping the starter from inside the cabin? I have a PA28-180 the cowling is not hinged. It would be extremely dangerous to put the cowling back on with the engine running. Good point about remote locations. Going to keep a spare set hidden in the plane or secured in a second spot. Thanks

Best make real sure your p-lead is cut and won't connect again, eh? If you take off to fly home, and it rattles around and reconnects, the engine would stop, and since you have no key to do anything about that, your engine out checklist will be hard to complete, as you glide.
