You were making my heart skip a beat every time you went crazy with it. I sliced a good chunk of my skin and am scarred for life haha

Dude you forgot to mention the plastic safety guard that is sold with that mandoline! You should use it if you like your fingertips..

Ever since I sliced my finger slicing a cucumber I always use the safety guard. It is scary when that happens. Specially for the poor vegetarians guests.

if training to be a chef over the past years has taught me anything is that you must respect the mandolin! i would also recommend using an open palm when slicing ingredients as service is easier with a palm cut over a fingertip cut.

As a man with the digital dexterity of a three-year-old, I appreciated my mandoline. I've got the same Japanese brand (which is apparently not to be named) that you're using for the demo. I've also got questions:

1. You say that it's important to keep the blade sharp. How does one do that on such a contraption?

2. My unit came with attachments for dicing and mincing. I've found them to be ineffectual. Is this my fault, or theirs?

3. I've heard countless bluegrass musicians make beautiful music on one of these. However, every time I start strumming mine, it's a bloody mess. Any suggestions?

i remember my co-worker before. it was his 1st time to use the mandolin ever. then after a few strokes, he cut himself. now, he is finger print-less man on this thumb

Yep for me a mandoline is essential in any kitchen! I'm not able to adjust the blade though so I'll have to get myself one of those Japanese ones!

do you sharpen your mandolin blade as you would a knife

So a sharp blade is important, but you don't show if that blade can be removed. So what happens when it eventually dulls? Are They Sharpened the same as a knife or do you angle only one side? This video seems a bit superficial, there aren't any tips or tricks, just proper use of a mandolin.

How do you guys feel about the hand guard that comes with some mandolins? How far up the food item you're slicing do you go before you stop?

How do you ensure the blade is sharp? Does it require you to disassemble the mandolin to remove the blade to sharpen on a knife sharpener or is there a simpler method? Thanks!

USE THE HANDGUARD or a kevlar glove. thanks.
Or don't, however much you love your fingers is up to you!

does a Japanese mandolin allow for removal of the blade and swapping it out for a waffle cutter or a julienne slicer?

seems a little basic.... found it funny though when he said you can close your eyes and then straight after he says "dont do that" can't script that kind comedy

this video really should also address the problem that the material is eventually getting too short to hold... toss away at that point?
