Thanks for the video. I own an Alexa 35 and an Alexa LF. They are not highly profitable even though they work all the time. The gigantic amount of accessories required for commercial rental is 3-4x the purchase cost of the cameras and these cameras don’t even turn on without a $15K battery kit. Codex prices? Forget it. Add the cost of O’Connor fluid heads, WCU-4, endless amounts of monitors, full Teradek packages, transport vehicle, mag liners…. maintenance!!! Upgrades!!! Insurance!!! Warehouse storage. It’s not worth it and not worth the headache. If you want to be a DP/owner, put the money on 1 set of lenses you love and just keep them forever. They never need updating. I still have my 30 year old Ultra Primes and they paid for my house 💪

I’m not even 3 minutes in and I have to say, VERY SMART. You got a great deal and DID’NT FINANCE to buy a camera package. When there are so many camera packages for reasonable prices in this day and age, when I see YouTubers saying that they financed a $75K camera package, it blows my mind. I don’t care what anyone says, financing camera packages is absolutely insane and the easiest way to throw away money.

I bought a cheap Alexa classic, I don't really need it but I enjoy having it, and the tonez are so good

Nice one man, I get the whole rental thing and it does make sense but in this day & age...as you've proved...it is attainable if you're smart with money.

I don't shoot as much as I used too but for me nothing changed over the years in that I got a lot of great jobs very last minute and I didn't have to worry about renting as I owned all my gear.

Love this video and that you aren't caught up in the latest shiny toys and just went for the best, regardless of age.

Congrats on the purchase. Makes total sense for you and you paid cash. Win-Win situation for you. I just bought a FX6 for corporate and mid level branded content. I usually rent an Alexa Mini for features, as the price has fallen for rentals. It's the "new" indie camera.

I purchased my Arri in 2023. Best decision i ever made. I love to shoot on red. I mainly purchased the arri to rent out and also work projects where the director wants a Arri. This 10 year old cameras get requested a lot more over any black magic camera.

I love the resurgence of these amazing decade old cameras because they are so affordable now. IMO such a better option than brand new cameras. I went with red weapon dragon CF so far…

Congrats brother!! What a DEAL! Bought a mini kit myself a year ago, not as good a deal at 22K (still a deal tho lol). Been such a worthy investment for me. Totally agree, there's just nothing like owning one and having it always available while getting to learn the ins & ins on the daily. I have loved having mine. Best to you and again, congrats!

As someone looking into buying one as well, I’d be interested in the specs of the exact package you acquired (body condition, hours, licenses, accessories etc.) as some of the packages range from bare-minimum to pretty much ready to shoot. Would be an interesting comparison to see what you chose and what best fit your needs. Thanks!
