Victims’ families get their final say in court prior to the sentencing of the Parkland school shooter. The statements follow a nearly three-month trial, after which a jury of seven men and five women could not unanimously agree on the death penalty for the convicted killer, resulting in a life sentence.

I never ever cry, but this really got to me halfway through I had tears. I’m a brother who lost my sister recently and it’s hurt me terribly bad. It’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to my family, she was a year younger than me only 23. I would do anything to see her again.

I too know what it’s like to go from younger brother to only child in the matter of hours. It’s literally as if you lost your other half. Mine was an older brother who was only 1 year older than me so we literally grew up right side by side until I was 19. It hurts, it really hurts. It’s such a lonely empty feeling and I feel for this kid man. I just hope he finds a better way to cope with it than I did.
