Why I'm No Longer a Microsoft Software Engineer

If you saw my viral day in the life software engineering video, you're probably wondering if I quit my software engineering job at Microsoft, got laid off, or am now working at Google? Today, I'll answer all those questions by explaining my story. #SoftwareEngineer #Microsoft #Google

The views and experiences expressed in this video are my personal perspectives and they don’t represent the company I work at. Also, none of the text messages are real and they're just for entertainment purposes.

It’s a miracle that you got an offer from Microsoft straight out of college, all I hear about from graduating or job hunting SE’s is that they’re applying to hundreds of jobs and getting rejected or ghosted

Great video and story, I also worked for Microsoft but as contractor in the IP TV division as server lab admin, the job required a lot of scripting and we could not use Symantec Ghost to image servers which was what I was most experienced with and had to use Microsoft's in house software that was command line to do so, so I left.
In hind site I probably should have stayed longer and maybe after a year or so they might have converted me to a permanent employee. Before the position I worked at IBM Global Services 1996 -1998, Cisco Systems, Intel, ADP Pobusiness, and several startups including VA Linux where I installed a Microsoft Terminal Server in 1999 with Citrix Metaframe so Linux desktops that were in Finance could access their finacial program running in Windows. Best of luck in your new Product Management position, I hope you like it and stay many years at Microsoft.

Even though I'm not a Microsoft worker or tech overall 😄 This was very inspiring. I enjoy how open and optimistic you are! This is exactly how growth works, take chances! 💪🏽 wishing you the best of luck on your journey ✨

What a rollercoaster this video was, but very entertaining! Can you do more Day in the Life videos as a PM now?

You know what I am also going through the same situation and that was before seeing your video.
I was thinking about the exact profile and all. I find this video a big coincidence to match up with my situation. It was a good video.
What you did was the right decision.

Try this over 30 years - you have to maintain your skills and it's exhausting at times. Don't get complacent because in tough times the interviews are brutal. I think sometimes they are just having fun when they know they will not be hiring you. Expect no help because most are working on looking better than you by any means necessary. Coworkers are not your friends. I enjoyed working and when I got a new job, I immersed myself in it and after a year or 2 I was valuable to the company. When there are rumors of layoffs you will see the real world.
