Replace the rods with strings. Put spring scales in the string to measure the line tension. Drag is the horizontal component of line tension. Lift is the vertical component of line tension plus weight. Measure the airspeed, wing area and air density, then you can calculate the lift and drag coefficients. With the CG and bridle locations known, you can determine the pressure center location. Plot them as functions of attack angle.

Thats a great demonstration of the forces required for a lifting body.

it really looks mechanical, the air is just for fun not for lift

question- what size fan is needed to generate this test?

Great video! This could be a nice final project for aerospace engineering

Good work. Is that aircrew powered ? The wind direction indicator intrduces intrduces unnecessary turbulence.

Some wind tunnel set up will hang the airplane from the ceiling, instrument can should the amount of lift it has

As a non engineer, could someone answer me these two questions:
1. I've seen videos that explain that lift is created by a pressure difference above and beneath the airfoil. I can see that, but speaking intuitively I always thought that lift was created by a transfer of kinetic energy of air molecules to a body: so when an aircraft is traveling at 300km/h its wings are being hit at this according velocity and thus „pushed upwards“. Is this absolute nonsense or is the described event actually occurring in a similar way?
2. When an aircraft is flying while trying to remain its current altitude is it plain and straight or is it oscillating while constantly adjusting the angle of attack (myb similar to a bicycle that goes seemingly straight but is actually constantly balancing out by going left and right)?

Velocity (speed) has the greatest affect on lift. Unlike all the other components in the lift equation velocity is squared. The lift components are, basically, shape of the airfoil, density of the atmosphere, velocity, and area of the airfoil surface

It's pragmatically cool..

I tried to explain Bernoulli's Theory and how the asymmetric design of airfoils allows for lift to my teenage Stepson, he is ADAMANT that scientists STILL don't know exactly why planes fly. He went away disbelieving my explanation, and I went away wondering what in God's name are they teaching kids in school these days. So is the world, but THANKS for the AWESOME video.

Its inspiring me too make my own model plane

Cool Wind Tunnel, did you do calculations prior to the test to determine what the lift force should be and at what air speed?

Everyone says to replace the rod with a string, but I think the rod is suppose to make maintenance more easy.

It reminds me of the test flight from how to train your dragon

How did you choose the point where you attached the rods to the model?
