How To Ride Drop Offs On Your E MTB | EMBN Skills

Riding drops can be a little daunting at first, but with a few tips they’re fairly easy to get the hang of. Neil talks through how he rides both big, and small drops on his E mountain bike to help you progress your riding.

Learn where your back wheel is, you are going to need good technique because it can be hard to keep the front wheel up with the weight of an E mountain bike. So practise, build up to bigger drops and use your weight not just your arms.

Met a guy while out riding the other day he was on ebike. Needles to say I was blowing out my ass going uphill hill while he floats on with what looks like no effort. Meet him half an hr later an he offers me a shot to try it out! I ain’t gonna lie after that I was very tempted to sacrifice the weight for climbing effort. Couldn’t believe the difference

I like how the titles with the tips are covering up the footage of the tips 😂

Am I the only one who has watched every EMBN's video and hasn't even tried an e-bike?

I learnt to drop in by going to a skate park. You can start small and get bigger and now I love doing them. I still prefer aproaching from the left rather than the right as my right foot is forward. Straight on is ok which you usually have to do on a trail. I suggest practicing first on a lighter bike as it is like a bunny hop and you do need to lift the back. With a heavy bike like the ebike a bit more speed helps, only a couple of cranks. Being able to drop in then helps with drop offs where the landing slopes away and you need to push down on the bars and as Neil said keeping you weight back. When you get it right its so smooth and lots of grip at the front where you want it for next part of the trail. Useful and fun skill to learn. It still takes balls to do it and keep going bigger thou..lol

Great video as always Neil! I love the way lean the bike over that drop off.

I can’t help but feel I’d end up like the horizontal guy from fails and bails! lol

I’m going to have to try it at some point though!

Awesome vid by the way! At Cannock chase there is the Devils stair case where u have to drop off but there are berms straight after the drop off n its quite tight catches me out all the time u just simply cant drop the front wheel then roll into the berm otherwise ur hitting the downward slope and eating mud n dirt! Haha not caught me out yet I say. Thanks for the vid mate great stuff 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻😎

Neil, What size is your Haibike? I'm looking to buy the exact same one and like a smaller size to throw around. I'm 6'1" with a short reach. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Hi Neil.
Been watching all the Emtb videos as I'm waiting for delivery of mine. One thing that struck me about your Emtb skills videos is that they really don't have anything to do with techniques specific to Ebikes. Like you I come from the... erm... good 'ol days of 48lb DH bikes so don't really envisage any major problems switching to riding an Ebike skills wise or the need to re-learn any fundamental skills when I get it.
What I am interested in though is. When you're descending what mode do you run an Ebike in?
Off? eco? trail? I'm thinking NOT boost as I imagine a boost of power at the wrong time might accelerate the rear more tha you'd want. Never ridden one though so don't know how soon the power kicks in or by how much.
Also do you switch modes at all during a descent? if for instance there's a flat portion or a small rise?
Enjoying your vids BTW. If you can find the time please teach Jonsey to jump. I tend to have to look away in all his riding sections. :P
