Anno 1503 Review and Anno History Collection reaction

Anno 1503 is the second title in the Anno city building series, but it’s the third Anno title that I have played. I’ve started with 1701: The Sunken Dragon and enjoyed playing it quite a bit, then 1404 which I enjoyed even more, and now it’s time to see how 1503 fares. I also offer my take on the recent Anno History Collection announcement.

CORRECTION TO SMTH I SAY IN THE VIDEO: It has been brought to my attention that the visual style present in the game is in fact NOT pixel art, but pre-rendered 3D low resolution images. I've been giving pixel art too much credit :)

In order to use Anno 1503 and still be able to go to another software you'll have to get DxWnd. I discovered it a long time ago for Windows 7 and it served well even on Windows 10 and 11 though having 1 boring bug : the first few minutes (haven't count TBH) in windowed mode you'll get weird shadows from the other windows in the background that aren't minimized.
Having 2 displays I usually keep the one where I'm playing Anno "clean" (So no other windows opened in the background) and the other I can have all of my web browser, Discord, volume mixer etc. so I can come back and forth without any problems: no artifacting, no weird shadows, no bugs... BTW you'll not have the "spectral form" of the sprites with DxWnd :)

It's quite fun to see translation errors in the GoG version. I still have my old CD (french version) and it didn't had those errors. I'll probably check the GoG version as I happened to get it when the game was free for a time :p

I swear I though Anno 1503 graphics were *really* bad, to the point I preferred the first Anno game and I was seriously thinking of skipping this one for its graphics and complex UI, but rewatching this review I'm really surprised how I came to such insane conclusion xD

Ive preorderd that pack for 40€ which is indeed a disgrace for the amount of content. Otherwise im happy about the hopefully fucking Patched memory error in 1404. if not u refund that real quick

I love the game but my god, this game looks bad for a 2003 game. I know, the graphics did aged quite well due to its graphical design but look at it this way...

Impossible creature came out in the same year.

Edit: by "it look bad" I meant that it is graphically bad for its time, not thats its not great to look at because when your naval empire become massive, this game is gorgeous.
