Part Five of my Autistic Hyposensitivity series.
Vestibular and Proprioceptive Hyposensitivity is under-responsivity to balance, the position and movement of your body, and spatial awareness.
This is how it presents for me and examples of my experiences.

soooo relatable- but ohh the clumsiness! also I'm always bumping into people bc my body didnt register them there or being in front of someone & stopping without realizing I'm directly in their way... feeling floaty/like you're not a body is a way I'd describe it too.

Thanks a million for sharing them. Your sincere explanations about hyposensitivity let me understand my son's feeling much better.

Another thing that proprioceptive hyposensitivity made nearly impossible for me: crutches. I broke some bones years ago, and apparently the nurses were so aghast at how uncoordinated I was on crutches that they ordered me to use a walker. I didn't think I was that bad, but then again I have a tendency to run into walls, so... *shrug*

One more thing that resonates with me.

Ok, here’s (part of) my crazy theory. I do not believe that all cases of proprioceptive or vestibular hyposensitivity are actually that. In fact, some of them might be the exact opposite.

Let me (try to) explain: in doing my own extensive research into sensory processing, I found myself wondering some things about myself. My vision? Hypersensitive. My hearing? Ridiculously hypersensitive. Tactile? Don’t get me started. Olfactory? I’m like Remy from Ratatouille.

So why then would my vestibular and proprioception be hyposensitive, especially when proprioception is so closely linked with tactile sense?

Then it hit me. What if those inward senses were just as hypersensitive as my outward ones? Maybe they are so sensitive that they are constantly being “shorted out” and that’s why it seems to present like hyposensivity, its opposite.

I know it’s nuts, but bear with me. I thought, what could cause this overload? Could it be that my vestibular and proprioceptive senses are so acute that they are actually detecting the simultaneous rotation and revolution of the earth? It would certainly explain why I’m dizzy half the time and constantly bang my shoulders against door jambs when trying to walk and think at the same time.

Btw, I had this string of thoughts the same day that I realized that I could sense magnetic north with my eyes closed, simply by spinning around.
