Summertime (from 'Porgy and Bess') - George Gershwin/arr. Dave Wolpe

What a wonderfully sultry feature for your vocal soloist! Gershwin's beautiful ballad is given the Wolpe treatment...the band simply smolders under the vocal line that everybody knows. After the first verse, the band gets a chance to show some flames of its own on a chorus before the vocalist returns. An optional solo part for tenor sax is included for added flexibility. Vocals in C minor.

Summertime and the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Oh your daddy's rich and your ma is good lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry
One of these mornings
You're gonna rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky
But till that morning
There's a nothin' can harm you
With daddy and mammy standin' by

This execution is about 10 counts faster then anticipated by Wolpe. Originally tempo should be 67 (and no crescendo for the instrumental part, but that always happens).
