Тяжелая песня про тяжелую жизнь великих казаков. В ней вся грусть, несправедливость и всё отношение к поздним атаманам. Мир великим войнам, предкам нашим

English lyrics:

Like the wild Terek, to the high shore,
The Cossacks chased out forty thousand horses.
And the shore covered itself, and the Terek covered himself,
With hundreds of chopped and shot bodies!

Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!
Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!

And the first bullet, and the first bullet,
And the first bullet hit my horse into his chest!
And the second bullet, and the second bullet,
And the second stupid bullet injured me!

Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!
Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!

The ataman learns: a warrior is missing!
The squad resupplies and forgets about me!
I'm sorry about that soldier in that wide field,
I'm sorry, dear mother, about that buckskinned horse!

Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!

The cold rain will, the cold rain will,
The cold rain will wash my bones!
The black crow will, the black crow will,
Peck my falcon eyes!

Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!
Merry, brothers, merry,
It's merry to live, brothers!
With our ataman, there is no grief!

With our ataman, we will bow our heads merrily!

Thanks for reading, and greetings from Slovakia.))

There is some discord, suspicion about the origin of this song. And from what I was able to find out, I can summarize the following.

The phrase "Lyubo, bratsy, zhit'" (Russian: Любо, братцы, жить) appeared in a soldiers' song published in Biblioteka Dlya Chteniya (Russian monthly magazine founded in Saint Petersburg), 1837.

According to several authors, the song is dedicated to the events of the Russian Civil War (1917 - 1922). Other sources mention it as a piece of Cossack folklore. It is also said that the song was recorded in Ukrainian by folklorists from the southern Kherson Oblast and was popular with Nestor Makhno's troops (an anarcho-communist movement) in the Ukraine in the early 1920s.

The song became extremely popular after the release of the Soviet film Alexander Parkhomenko (1942), where it was performed by Boris Chirkov. In 1942-1943, an adaptation of tankers was created, based on Chirkov's version.

The song was popularized by such well-known Russian artists as the Kuban Cossack Choir, Zhanna Bichevskaya, Pelageya, etc.

Synopsis: The Cossacks led 40, 000 horses to the Terek River. After the bloody battle, one bank of the Terek is covered by the dead men and animals. The fatally wounded hero remembers about his wife, his mother, and his steed. Feeling sorrow for the two latter, he mourns his fate.
