Sam Altman and OpenAI said nearly two years ago that AGI could “elevate humanity” and “give everyone incredible new capabilities.”

However, competition in the AI space is now more fierce than ever. Elon Musk, behind his own startup xAI, s suing OpenAI for putting profitability and commercial interests first. Musk co-founded OpenAI as a non-profit entity but left the company after falling out with Altman.

During a recent event, Altman said he was “tremendously sad” about his strained relationship with Musk. He did stress that he rejects the idea of Musk – now very close to the President-elect Donald Trump – hurting OpenAI through political power or other means.

Interesting. Users also have a part to play in security, and current legislation is sufficient for this. Imagine that someone invents a new tool or device that produces text, a "typewriter", so does the developer of that machine have to create security solutions for the tool that prevent users from writing inappropriate texts? No, the users of the tool also have a responsibility, excessive restrictions in the tool can cause more damage.

Can anyone here please explain how is AI a potential threat to humanity if it requires internet connection in order to work? Are machines eventually going to have all the information stored on a hard drive or internal storage and be able to process machine learning without being online? What am I missing?
