One of the most important aspects of my work as a coach is to help people understand complex behaviour - either their own, or someone else who they are perhaps having a difficult relationship with. One of the most common things that I hear is that a person's behaviour is random or unpredictable, and that there is no pattern to it. In fact, when you create a broad enough perspective to see the different forces and constraints acting upon a person, the rules which drive their behaviour become obvious and their behaviour becomes highly predictable.
In this video, I'll use the concept of a pendulum to show you how very simple rules give rise to apparently complex behaviour, and perhaps this will inspire you to look for new perspectives on the behaviours that you are seeking to understand.
