While some may dismiss it, breaking deserves respect as both an art form and a sport. Its artistic elements—character, originality, and musicality—are particularly captivating, offering a depth that goes beyond pure physical prowess. The dynamic interplay between two dancers with contrasting styles in a battle creates a compelling narrative that transcends traditional sports.

However, it's crucial to recognize that breaking's artistic nature doesn't diminish its physical demands. Breakers require exceptional stamina, endurance, strength, and technical skill. The sport demands rigorous training and constant innovation to advance one's abilities.

As a B-boy I hope that people understand that breakdancing is more than just power moves and acrobatics. It is a dance that involves being able to follow the beat and dance. You have to top rock, and you have to six step and incorporate all the moves in between. We are more than spins, flips and hand stands. Lets represent this part of hip hop correctly. Props to all qualifiers and I wish all the old school enthusiast that have left this earth could see this happening.

I love to see people who probably couldn’t run a lap at an elementary school lose their minds over something because it’s ‘not a sport’

Honestly this looks a lot more athletically demanding the badminton

2nd generation breaker speaking, Breakin' is not a sport, it's competitive like one, but it's not a sport. It's not even made for stage. People want to see the spinning and gymnastics, but the core of the dance is making a connection to the music and the footwork on the floor, which was never exciting to the media from the 1980s. I'm happy these kids are getting the exposure, and hopefully, they'll get to make some money. From the streets of the bronx in the early 70s to the 2024 Olympics, there is no way I could've seen that coming.

Has the event taken place yet? If so, I can't believe I missed it. I've been waiting for it for the last few years.

I was following breakdancing during the ABDC era. I've tried it, and it's a lot more difficult than it looks. I hope the Olympics makes the judging system legit.

Also, please no commentators. It ruins the joy of watching two breakers at it. BC one did this, and that itself ruined it.

I’m 51 years old and I will only watch the Olympics because of breakdancing.

People who criticize breakdancing as a sport and that it should not be in the Olympics has zero clues as to how difficult breakdancing is and the incredible strength it takes to excel.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in 30 years from now breakdancers will make the kind of money that top soccer ⚽️ and basketball 🏀 players make today.

Dancers ARE athletes. These comments are deplorable. I’m proud of these b boys and b girls. It takes having speed, musicality, and precision. Everything regular athletes have to do to perfect their craft.

The " knockout game" will be the next Olympic sport.

Let me guess, most of the people making negative comments are either overweight, non-athletic or both!

It's gonna be messy to bring art into sport, but there surely is a sporty approach to judging breakers, as much as I'd love to see all around dancing hit the stage, at a sporting event with definitive winners and losers they should compete in athleticism and acrobatics mostly

I had no idea that break dancing was still a thing. I thought it was a fad that died out by the end of 1984.

It’s athletic, but a sport? Either way it’s the only event I’m really excited about .

Those who are criticizing about breakdancing being a sport in the Olympics, have you try to do some of those moves? It is extremely difficult and it takes great strength, agility, and power to excel in it.

Even though I might not be very good at it I can play soccer, basketball, tennis, box, swim, etc., but I could not do those difficult breakdancing moves even if my life depends on it. Most of us would break our arms and necks if we try those moves.
