Check out what I’ve done so far with water cooling the HP M01-F1024 Desktop computer to resolve the fan noise issue and further thoughts on the usability of this machine.

I bought this PC with a different APU (4300G). After some research I found out that, depending on the configuration of the components, HP sometimes ships this line of PCs with a 310W PSU. I was also able to find out the parts number of said PSU, which is L16397-001. Luckily HP offers spare parts to consumers as well via their Partsurfer service. Now that I got 310W to work with I decided to slap in a GTX 1650 Super and get the necessary extra power via SATA adapter. I also added a 2TB 2.5 inch for storage, a second identical 8GB 13L76AA RAM stick, upgraded to an Intel AX210 6E wi-fi card (which actually makes use of both pre-installed antennas, unlike the card the PC came with). I also removed the stock CPU fan and replaced it with a Noctua NH-L9x65 and mounted the removed CPU fan (without heatsink of course) onto the drive cage bracket side in order to use it as an intake fan. I think there is not much more I could do to improve this build any further except for a better 4000 series APU/CPU.

Great video! I am considering picking one of these up to test and tinker around as a budget gaming machine.

I put a Thermaltake CLP0556-B HSF in mine. Can dissipate up to 95 watts and it's $15 on Amazon. I never would have considered water-cooling but you certainly proved that it can be done. The teenager that I built the computer for is completely happy with the APU but it's good to know that we can safely upgrade to a GTX 1050 ti in the future (when the absolutely insane video card market calms down).

Great overview of this set up and some of the things to look out for, and yes, trying to use the SATA power for the Graphics card is a bad idea. I picked up a MO1 F1124 with the Ryzen 4600G to test against a 4350G that I ordered on eBay. HP and their infinite wisdom stuck an 8GB and a 4GB stick of memory, as well as the Intel style cooling solution, so I'll be swapping those out. Very happy to hit the subscribe button as well.

Wow very informative series on this specific pc. When I first saw it for sale it looked amazing on paper with that apu decided to do some research first. You answered every question I had and even a couple I didn’t.
I agree with your summary.. its a nice apu but way to many comprimises. Better off Building custom if you don’t want to just use it in its out of the box configuration.

Brandon, great video! Looking forward to more! I do have a question-have you been able you allocate more than 512 MB to the video portion of the 4700g? I researched it and I believe it was Asus mobos that allow 3 Gig of memory to be allocated. All the other mainstream mobos allow 2 Gig of system memory to be allocated. HP, in their glorious wisdom, allows only 1/2 Gig to be allocated. Do you know of any workaround?
If not, I may as well just rip out the CPU and build from there.
Love what you did here and THANKS for the video!

I just put in a 2400g after taking out the 4700g and the PC would not boot. The power led lit and all the fans, including the CPU fan is still spinning. Is it ok if u could share a pic of your jumper pins? I messed around with the pins and might have accidentally put them in the wrong place. Thanks

Does the CPU cooler backing plate separate from motherboard and case? Or will I have to make whatever cooler I use work with the HP supplied backing plate and screws?

I ordered one of these computers a few days ago to do some light CAD work and I want to upgrade the cooler to a Noctua or some other air-cooler cooler. I'm trying to plan the build out.

Also, do you know if the case has standard ATX mounting points? Would it be possible at some point to just throw a standard ATX mobo and PSU into this thing? I'm pretty good with 3D printing so I'm hoping I can design some sort of adapter to mount a standard ATX PSU - down the road at some point if the stock stuff doesnt' work out for me.

Thanks for the videos. They've made my feel not-so-bad about by low budget purchase.
