In Google maps also you can share your location indefinitely by turning on the 'until you turn this off' option.

This feature is also on Google Maps (Location Sharing) on Android since ages, i use it myself everyday anytime. It works exactly same way you described. Not sure, why you are saying its iPhone exclusive feature?

There same thing gmap in android and ios called location sharing. Works like charm an doesn’t drain battery.
