I’ve trained for this scenario w/o a weapon, and was taught to drop into a lower stance while pushing up on the hands to clear their grip. Step two, retain their right arm with your left hand, while throwing a right elbow straight behind into their midsection. Lastly, secure an under hook on the right side and step forward with your left leg while rotating to the left side to execute a hip toss. Finish your opponent on the ground as you see fit.

You don't even need a tool to do that. The back of the hand is pretty sensitive, so you can attack it with your knuckles, key ring, whatever.

In ninjutsu, they teach you to knock the back of the hand very fast with the second knuckle. The pain comes fast and he will let it go.
