Turning a Giant Oak into a STUNNING Bowl : Woodturning

In this week’s woodturning video, I will be transforming a giant piece of oak burl into a truly amazing bowl. This piece certainly challenged my lathe, but it coped extremely well, so bigger projects are on the horizon! This burl had some of the craziest figuring I’ve ever seen, and when the oil was applied, it brought out all the colors and grains, creating a truly one-of-a-kind item.

Lovely piece, very rustic, felt sure you'd give it a few ltrs of black and honey resin. Cool extended chuck key for the cole jaws.

I'm assuming you you had your drive on the foot to remove the sacrificial block to save loading the piece. Is it particularly fragile?

I can see an orange outside with a face cut out as a one of a kind jack o lantern candy dish for Halloween. Unfortunately that means it wouldn’t be seen as much as it deserves. Maybe a cheap log for a future project?
