Great Planes Phazer re-maiden and flight on Stu's Channel

I believe the first maiden was launched from too high of a level. It must be launched near the ground. We are at 30 paces out instead of the 15-20 called for in the book. We used a 13-14 foot launcher to make sure it would go up. I may have a lemon. Either the esc or the motor is not letting this one get up to speed. No vertical, I would not dare try a loop with this with only this much power. The specs add up to a fast plane, but mine is not doing it. I'll change the esc first and see what happens. If all goes well after the switch, then I'll repair this one to look like new using the same principles as the repair on the viperjet. It really struggled to fly. This whole flight is at full throttle. I was hoping for a small jet that would compare to the performance of the Great Planes Rifle.

Glad im not the only experienced flyer that sometimes struggles launching fast EDF type planes! Went through a massive learning curve launching my Rifle M1 off some rails. Couldnt hand launch without almost crashing it every single time. Rails work really well. Takes time to mount the bungee hook in the right place but its worth it in the end.

You are right about the drag. Though the edf is sealed in a very cool way to take in air, it's draggy with that big cheater hole. Still, one would expect to be able to do a loop, or at least a little vertical, and mine does neither. I wanted to be able to compare related apples within the apples family, but one turned out to be a yellow citrus fruit. I expected a bit better from Great Planes. They are one of my favorite companies.

look at their demo video. It makes it look faster than the rifle, and we are talking about great planes here. I have four fiberglass edfs, and yes props are wayyyy more effecient. The only reason edfs are around is because the jets look much cooler without a prop on the nose or tail. The glass is really thin on this one, and my thinking is that I would get as much out of is as some of the small foam jets, which can haul ass, due to the weight.

Hi Stu, maidend mine yesterday with the bungee, all was smooth and went well. Stretched the bungee 14 paces and just let her go from 20 cm f the ground at a 20-30 degree angle. She's doing about 6 to 7 minutes on a 2200 4S with mostly 60% power.

I think you haven't had enough experience with all types of edfs. Fiberglass ones are just plain heavier than the foam ones and need way more airspeed for take off. The Evader and Phazer simple can't be hand launched unless they're way over powered or you're launching them off a large hill or cliff. The bungee setup works really well, you just have to get it stretched really good. Forget about how many paces you step, just stretch that SOB out till it feels tight and underhand toss it.

they both are supposed to do 90mph so it doesnt matter how draggy this plane is compared to the rifle. theyre both made by the same company. the hobbico vid on this plane sure does look like it goes 90mph. have u hooked it up to a watt meter? maybe the esc timing is off or your batts r kaput. have u called hobbico? maybe theyll replace things

Also, you're compairing this jet to a GP Rifle. They're like apples and oranges. The Rifle has very little drag and is sleek. The Phazer has draggy air inlets and cheater hole underneath. Plus edf's aren't very efficient compared to prop planes and fly best when the speed is kept up on them, esspecially the heavier ones like this.

Lol, I don't have a habit of crashing. lol. Thank you though.

is that the stock motor and fan? it has a nice jet whoosh to it as opposed to the higher pitched whine from other videos. must be the wind?

Or get a Dons wicked 4800 Saw a Vid with one installed in this plane a it had Almost unlimited vert....ALMOST

fiberglass doesnt necessarily make a plane heavier. perhaps u need to work on your technique and eat more spinach. have u ever watched a hand launch of a f5d pylon racer? it looks like a javelin world record attempt
