I gotta say, Roger Radcliffe is *VERY* good at addition!

Bit of an odd theory but what if the reason they put in a scene were all the damnations are covered in coal was to save a bit on budget at the end of the film. I could be wrong but it does seem like an interesting idea cause drawing all those spots over and over again must of cost a lot and drove some animators insane back then cause that was all done by hand, not digitally.
