That engraved number is extremely important for high score runners on Starfox 64. If you have a revised copy, your total possible high score per stage is locked at 512

Fun fact about DMA Design/Rockstar, the DMA came from Amiga programming manuals and "direct memory access" but they would always tell journalists it "Doesn't Mean Anything".

Hyundai used to be the biggest corporation in south korea back in 20th century. Started as a construction company, Hyundai used to do all sort of things, and releasing imported nintendo consoles by ″Hyundai Electronics″ (Hyundai Jeonja/현대전자) was one of their business. NES, Gameboy, Super Famicom, and Nintendo 64 were released by them. But due to financial crisis in south korea back in 1997 along with death of Hyundai's original founder Ju-young Jeong, Hyundai was split into dozens of companies, one of them being that famous Hyundai Motor Company Group. Hyundai Electronics is forever gone back then (Some of their business were moved to ″SK Hynix″. It's currently well-known world wide for computer RAM.), and nintendo products has been imported by company called Daewon until 2006, when nintendo of korea was founded/and still going strong ever since.

Fun history lesson from drew's korean subscriber!

There's a used game and toy store in West Wichita that used to be a Game Xchange, and they have a Cruisin' USA arcade machine that has the "COMING SOON TO NINTENDO ULTRA 64" demo announcement. A massive piece of retro gaming history being preserved.

My favorite slogan for Nintendo came from the N64 era: "Get 'N' or get out."

Ahh my favorite console of all time! Am I biased? Absolutely. Blinded by Nostalgia? Most definitely! But no other console has given me the same cherished memories of gathering 3 friends and playing some of the BEST multiplayer games known to mankind.

I have a region free tray installed in my system but I also still swap out the game backs.

How else will all those copies of NFL Quarterback Club ever serve any useful purpose?

1. An engraved batch number on the back label of an N64 cartridge is important if you're an N64 cartridge collector, looking to add to your collection. There are many reproduction N64 cartridges for sale on Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace etc., either trying to be passed off as legit, or the seller doesn't realize they've got a repro. One way to easily tell is if the back label is missing an engraved number. Those cheap Chinese reproduction cartridges usually don't have numbers engraved into the back label. Authentic N64 cartridges will always have two digits or two digits and a letter engraved into the top right corner of the back label. Though, this may be harder to see in a photo, especially if the photo is in poor quality.

2. Another option if you're looking to play Japanese cartridges on a U.S. console or vice-versa is to buy an adapter. I own an adapter cartridge called Ultra 64, and it has a cartridge connector on top, just like a GameShark. You can insert Japanese cartridges, and all the adapter does is act as a passthrough. A GameShark will work as well if you happen to have a working one laying around.

I remember there was a copy of Super Mario 64 playing at a McDonald's. Funny thing was that the control stick was screwed up, so Mario was drunkenly stumbling along Bob-omb Battlefield.

Interesting that the N64 also had an arcade counterpart. I know the Wii had one as well called Revolution Arcade (RVA), but it was only used for a few Capcom games

Oh man, when the N64 first came out, I wasn't that big of a fan, but later on I became obsessed with it in college, because it's such a great party multiplayer system. Seriously, so many fun memories playing Beerio Kart or Smash Brothers!

Nintendo's biggest rival, PlayStation, was also powered by a SGI chip. Like SGI had Nintendo as their 3rd choice, so was the inventor of the Wii mote motion control technology. That guy also presented and was rejected first by Sony, and Microsoft, and Nintendo was just his 3rd choice for presenting to

The region lock just being slightly different shapes for the carts was pretty smart, if easy to get around. I'm so glad we don't have to deal with that stuff anymore, though!

Great video! After being on the internet for so long, you'd think I'd know all there is to know about the N64, but it's nice to be humbled haha, real interesting tidbits here!

64 will always be associated with Nintendo! I Did not even hear about Fact #4. That is crazy. Yet another poor decision by SEGA of Japan.
I taught my kids how to remember 8x8 is Nintendo 64! To this day anything that adds up to 64 I quickly say, Nintendo 64. Thanks for the Nintendrew64 information!
