Instead of being at odds with ambition, I’m learning that philosophy encourages the search for the right type of ambition.

When I was at school, before a test, I used to tell my friends and my own self: irrespective of how high or low my grades turn out to be, giving the test our best shot is success. Anything less is a failure.. Found that to be a stable approach to deal with the Test of Life as well.

Really appreciate your analysis. Been struggling to find how to reconcile ambition and wisdom, think you did a great job

I want to be ambitious to be helpful for society, I want to achieve and accomplish for ethical reasons. I think this is what Stoicism is about.

That's really deep, especially because the only true satisfaction has to cook from within. External plaudits feel nice, but they fade far faster than security in the knowledge that YOU put your best into it

Wow greatness that you seek can not be defined by others you have to choose your own with knowing that it is great for you because it is something that you deem as great not because others see it that way

This is a great video. I am very interested in Stoicism now. Let's have the following scenario: A person wants to write a book. He doesn't want the book to be number 1. He does it because he likes sharing knowledge and for a feeling, the book will be good work. Now, how do we know the book is good work and it matters for people? By how much it sells and how much money it makes. So even if our ambition is in doing good work, we have to focus on how much money it brings because of its feedback. And based on this feedback we can see how good work we have done. Or do I understand it completely wrong?

The most important thing is the intention behind the ambition.
