Ans=> The Indian rhinoceros also called the greater one-horned rhinoceros is a rhinoceros native to the Indian subcontinent. It is listed as "Vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List. The one horned rhinoceros once ranged across the entire Northern part of the Indian subcontinent along the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra river basins from Pakistan to India-Myanmar border including Bangladesh and the southern parts of Nepal and Bhutan, but due to habitat destruction and climate changes its range has gradually been reduced to some parts of the Terai grasslands in Southern Nepal, northern Uttar Pradesh, northern Bihar, northern West Bengal and the Brahmaputra valley of Assam.

India has taken major steps towards the Indian rhinoceros conservation especially with the help of the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) and the other Non-governmental organizations. In 1910 all rhino hunting became prohibited. Currently there are over 3500 Indian Rhinos available out of which approximately 3000 are found in Kaziranga National Park in Assam. The Indian Rhinos occupies a distinctive status currently as it has been included in Schedule I of Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972. Recently, The New Delhi Declaration adopted at the second meeting of the Asian Rhinos range countries, underscored the trans-boundary collaboration and protection of Indian rhinos.

National Rhino Conservation Strategy

Recently, the government of India has also launched the National Rhino Conservation Strategy for India.
It called for active engagement between India and Nepal to protect the species.
The plan said the single population of rhinos in Sukla-Phanta (Nepal), Valmiki Tiger Reserve (India) and Chitwan National Park (Nepal) and Dudhwa (India) is separated by the political boundary between the two countries.
Instead of managing the two populations separately in the two countries, it needs to be managed with the same protocol.
The strategy would pave the path for long-term conservation of rhinos.
The plan calls for expanding distribution range as the occurrence of 90% of the rhino in one protected area is a cause of concern and conservation of existing and potential rhino habitats need to be made a national priority.
It also calls for strengthening protection, having dedicated research and monitoring and strict enforcement.

Indian Rhinocerous mostly found in Assam and Bengal, the Mannas national park in Assam, kazirangha national park in Assam and Jaldapara national park in Bangal. India have large no of Rhinocerous, More than other Asian countries such as India, Nepal, Bhutan Indonesia and Malaysia etc.
This Rhinocerous were become vulnerable, there species exicts, so India taken to promote the conservation of this vulnerable species :
1 . large no of Rhinocerous cross the border and go to Nepal and Bhutan, so our Rhinocerous species exicts.
2.Indian government declared that the these all national park as a protected areas, so by this no of species increase.
