I think using the term "getting more fond with her" rather than "falling in love with her" would sound a little better

One problem is that it isn't a family member that you must sacrifice, it's something you hold dear. So even sacrificing Nebula wouldn't work if Thanos never even cared for her in the first place.

The theory is wrong, although its a nice one, but if you rewatch the movie you will see that he was asking red skull how to get the stone and he was shocked when he realised he had to sacrifice. Heartbreaking scene when he looked at gamora and she realised
