THERE'S ONE THING I HATE DOING IN JAMAICA
There is one thing I hate doing in Jamaica and you have to do every single time you get here. Is it the food, rooms, excursions, no it's driving anywhere at all.

Don, you are really explaining why vetted tours are a must!

Those roads in Jamaica are awful. Thanks Don

We were going back to our cruise ship in Montego bay from Ocho Rios in a tour van and sitting in the front seats. I dozed off for a few minutes and when I opened my eyes, I was horrified. We were right on the bumper of a police car, sirens blaring and following a police transport van. We drove on his bumper going way too fast around the corners. After about 20 minutes, we past them both (with sirens and lights still blaring) and left them behind. Unbelievably crazy.

It’s stressful just hearing about it. Thankful you are safe!

I’ve been on shore excursions in Jamaica where I thought we were all going to die because of the horrendous driving. I will no longer get off the ship if we are in any Jamaican port.

Yes very bad. Did blue hole last year and the Jamaican drivers were high on out bus . Don’t know the laws there but complained to RCCL about the driving part only of our excursion

My late husband, an OPP officer, and his work partner, and his wife and I ( 2 RNs) went to Ocho Rios Jamaica. The only way we were comfortable going out off the resort on to the streets was showing the police badges, so that for our week, wherever we went the cry went up, Cop Cop, and we could actually move without weed shoved in our faces, and getting pushed around physically by vendors. Yes the roads sucked, and climbing the falls was awesome, but all 4 of us said, NEVER again.

Thanks for the warning. Sounds even worse than Spain or Italy!

Press reports say 1, 393 people were murdered in Jamaica in 2023. Joe Strummer and Mick Jones [of The Clash] in 1977 visited Kingston, Jamaica and wrote a song about the trip: Safe European Home. I don't think mush has changed since 1977.

our first cruise, we did a countryside "4x4" excursion in Jamaica. Where you sit in the open back of the safari type truck. Getting out of the city was scary!!

I love the drive from Montego Bay to Negril. It’s wild. Lay on the horn and go!😅

We took a private tour of 3 plantations from Falmouth in 2019. Very interesting Tours. Driver was polite and stayed with us at all times. Took us back to ship before dark. But Montego Bay was crazy and a bit scary

My dad’s best friend was a Jamaican and I went with girlfriends to stay at his house when I was in college. He turned over one of his cars to us that was a stick shift. Not only had I never driven a stick shift I had never driven on what I call the wrong side of the road. It was crazy with others speeding and passing while going around blind corners just beeping their horn 🤦‍♀️ Fun times in my teens.

Yes Totally agree Jamaica is not the safest place to go in the Caribbean.

The few excursions we took in Jamaica were beautiful. But your right the traffic is horrible and the driving conditions are brutal.
