Pine64 ROCK64 1GB SBC Cheap NAS OpenMediaVault Rsync Backup

My semi cheap Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution. I already had the 2 x drives and enclosures so this SBC fit the bill for a NAS with backup using rsync.

I chose the Rock64 over Raspberry pi3 because although the pi3 has a gig ethernet port, it is tied to USB2.0 bus (i.e. ~300mbps). The Rock64 gig port is tied to USB3.0 so you can max out the gig speeds which is better for download and upload.

You can reference this vid for help with setting up OpenMediaVault:

Just bought a rock64 this week for the same reason, USB 3.0 and full gigabit Ethernet. Glad to see the setup is the same as an rpi, thanks!

What Asus router model did you use in the tests? I'm using a Mitrastar router from the Internet Provider and the file transfer speed is around 50mb, with cat6 cables and my Dell G7 notebook. Suspecting that my router is the bottleneck.

Just a heads up, the 'generic' HDD attached to the board via USB 2.0 should have external power. Unlike the USB 3.0, which can supply ~900mha, the USB 2.0 cannot provide sufficient power to the 2.5" HDD. It will likely fail under consistent load.
