Jamon iberico is the first one that I've tried (thanks to my friends in Spain that led me to what they know is the good stuff). I became addicted, and started getting it as much as possible. I don't know whether the Bellota ham is nutty or not, I don't detect that stuff, but I know that my brain lights up more when I smell it.
After having both, Jamon Serrano felt like a cheap fake that I didn't even want to deal with. If you appreciate it - good for you. If you've never tried either of these and you're curious, go for the Jamon iberico. You don't need much, it's very rich in flavor, and not easy to devour in huge quantities. 50g for 1 person is usually enough for a nice experience. Unfortunately it's ridiculously expensive in the US.

If people are more vegan, we could have more of these tasty hams. Yum

Having been in Madrid for some time I wanted to try out the different jamón types, before knowing the difference (apart from the price of course). Like the video says serrano is hard but I personally prefer the taste but not the texture. Usually in shops you will find cheap ibérico and some expensive ones. Cheap ibérico in my opinion is worse than normal serrano (which can be cheaper) because it feels too fatty, not in a good way. The expensive ones are at least 3 to 4 times more expensive - you can feel it after checkout; an increase of €10-€15 for 100GM which in my case is only 2 maybe 3 servings because it is delicious and very rich!!

la diferencias es que el jamón de bellota es 1000 veces mejor que cualquier otro tipo. no se puede ni comparar, solo hace falta probar una loncha. es como comparar un buen queso con un quesito

Serrano is only worth subs and sandwiches, it's kind of salty and a little shallow in taste. The other two are the ones you want to look for, bellota or not, if the herd is good the ham is heaven-like.

All hams are cured up to five years. This is typical American advertising bull shit!!!! What he just said is.... Yes, all the hams are cured. Some, very few, are cured for five years. But, I want to make you think that what you are buying is special, so I'll make you think you are getting a five year old ham. Quality costs. This guy should have been a real estate agent. He stretches the true just as far.

Oh thanks for the explination :D I had jamon iberico when I went to Spain and it was really good :P Then we went home with some ham then we ran out :(

I then bought serrano ham in the Shops at home in the UK and it's not exactly the same but it was still good :) I thought the difference was that because what they sell in the UK is lower in quality but it's actually due to Serrano and Iberico being different hams XD

I haven't tasted de bellota before but I've seen it at Aldi so I might buy some in the near future :D

Even cheap imported pre-sliced Serrano tastes good compared to regular Norwegian hams. I don't think I'd be able to handle Iberico.

I love Jamon Iberico de Bellota it's by far the best ham i've ever tasted. My one concern however is that wild pigs due to their omnivore nature tend to eat other animals which leads to Trichinosis infection and curing ham alone does not kill this dangerous parasite, which raises a few questions. How do we know it's Trichinosis free?
