I was watching/listening while cooking…now I must watch again to write down all the recommendations. I have a couple of the books you mentioned (I also bought The Spellshop because of the adorable cover), but I’ve not read any of them yet. Thanks for the brief descriptions without reading the back cover to us. 👍

Payback’s a witch was such a fun read! Definitely a great witchy fall romcom book.

Never read Sweetbitter but loved the tv show.

Such great recommendations! Sweet bitter is really good. I worked for the same restaurant group in the early 2000s. My experience was not as exciting. I just finished the ARC of The Last Witch In Edinburgh by Mariell Thompson. Really good - Scottish folklore, feminist, Sapphic. It releases 8/20.

How spooky the girl on the cover of The Dutch House looks like you both or was it just me especially Erin xxx

I also had to buy The Spellshop because the cover is just so inviting.
I just started reading it and it's really good so far 💜✨

Here are some of my fav fall reads!
Adult fic: Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dracula by Bram Stoker (listened to it for the first time last year and was absolutely blown away by it!) The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

YA fic: The Luminaires and the Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard, The Drowned Woods and The Bone Houses by Emily Lloyd-Jones, The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert, Gallant by V.E. Schwab

YA graphic novel: Over My Dead Body: A Witchy Graphic Novel by Sweeney Boo

Juvenile Fic: The Bellwoods Game by Celia Krampien, The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier (this is wonderfully spooky!)

Juvenile graphic novel: Bunnicula by James Howe, Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen (so cute, a hug in a book), Séance Tea Party by Reimena Yee (another hug in a book!)

I love Alix Harrow's books! One of my fav authors! I really enjoyed Starling House.

Some great books! I’m also planning to read The Familiar and Vampires of El Norte this autumn.
I read God of the Woods last month and liked it so much that it made my favourites of 2024 list.
Starling House was just ok to me, it felt a little YA to me.
Slewfoot was a great eerie, colonial, feminist story. It felt more magical realism/historical fiction than horror but it was very witchy for sure. I recall it made it to my favourites list the year I read it. ✨ 🧹

Fun video! I am also tired of the 100F days. I am so surprised you liked A Discovery of Witches! I read until I got to the vampire yoga scene and had to remove the book from my house ASAP because of the cringe.

I DNF'd Warm Hands of Ghosts. Couldnt get into her writing style and did not connect with FMC. Cackle by Rachel Harrison was a good witchy read if you havent tried it. Bunny by Mona Awad is on my Fall TBR and for a nonfic memior Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Other Lessons from the Crematory by Caitlin Doughtry.

I had to pause to comment because I read Sweetbitter as I was starting my first ever serving job having moved to a new city just like the main character in the book and that was hella trippy. lol (also the book was just okay honestly)

Edit: Now that I am at the end. Also I have read Payback's a Witch earlier this year! It's cute but honestly, with the conflict towards the end, I didn't like it and I felt Talia came off petulant. Bummer though because otherwise it was really good, it just gave me the ick a bit.
