Statins and risk of Alzheimer's 🧠 - A Double-Edged Weapon

Показать описание
Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurologic disorder that causes the brain to shrink (atrophy) and brain cells to die. Statins have been linked with reduced risk of all-cause dementia and even Alzheimer's disease as well.

STATINS and risk of Alzheimer’s is the title of our conversation in the latest episode of our Brain Health Revolution podcast. There’s no doubt that diet and lifestyle are crucial long-term solutions for keeping LDL cholesterol low, however in certain cases of resistant or familial hypercholesterolemia, or in situations when someone is having a stroke or other cardiovascular diseases, waiting for cholesterol to go down with dietary changes is dangerous.

There is a tsunami of diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s, stroke and Parkinson’s disease permeating our culture. In our own communities and families, we all have known at least one person suffering from these illnesses and in many cases seen the fallout first-hand. There is no treatment for these diseases, and the emotional, financial and social burden is immense. These diseases are thieves, stealing time, money and ravaging the minds of our loved ones. Lifestyle change is the only answer.

When I was on a statin for a short time ( I took myself off) my biggest side effect was brain fog to the point where I felt as if I was loosing it. Nobody can convince me they don’t cause long term effects

Statins caused me to have confusion and memory loss. I couldn’t remember words even though I knew what I wanted to say. No longer happens now that I’m off of them. My mother was diagnosed with dementia. Realized my mom was the same because when hospice took her off statin, her memory was so much better. She was almost her old self. I will never take them again.

I’ve seen it with my own eyes what statins did to both my grandparents when they were put on them. They deteriorated mentally and physically. This woman must be being paid for this bs.

if thats the case why has the massive increase in dementia gone hand in hand with the massive use of statins. Cholesterol is protective. Statins are not

What about the increased chance of diabetes? Wouldn’t it be a better idea to tell the people to change their diet? Minimally lowering cholesterol vs a much larger chance or developing diabetes seems like way too much of a risk.

What about the study published by US Pharmacist on June 16, 2021 titled "Some Statins Appear to Increase Dementia in Patients With Mild Cognitive Issues"? According to this study, "taking lipophilic statins—which include atorvastatin, simvastatin, lovastatin, fluvastatin, cerivastatin, and pitavastatin—appears to more than double those patients’ risk of developing dementia compared with those who do not take statins." Who do I believe??

My mother has Alzheimer's and dementia. She hasn't a clue what's going on around her. I envy her at the moment.

Doctors don’t give a bad rating for any drug, because their profession doesn’t allow that. But truth is, many drugs have horrible side effects. I have been on Statin for the last 8 months, and my doctor doesn’t understand the pain I have been experiencing all this time. But patients who take the same medicine understand my pain before I explain it to them.

Always look to see who did the study and who actually funded it, or who funded the group who funded it. If you dig deep, it is usually paid for by the drug company somehow. 😮

INFLAMMATION is the CAUSE of cardiovascular disease .. NOT CHOLESTEROL LEVELS .. CAN WE PLEASE START FROM HERE

How about not using statins at all? How about lowering risk of Alzheimer’s or dementia through diet and lifestyle choices instead. I wish doctors would stop acting like drug dealers. Get to the root of the problem!

I don't care what a "study" and "data" says anymore. I believe my body's reaction. Drveloped severe neck and foot pain on rovustatin, Dr switched me to atorvastatin. After three months use, I have noticeable memory problems, confusion, and feel rundown and achy all the time. Planning on stopping, and if I start feeling better, will look for a physician who will help me control my cholesterol naturally.

In 1970, cholesterol upto 300 was normal. Was reduced by 100 for increasing profits.

Please tell my mother this who died of Alzheimer’s disease and use statins for over 20 years.

All the people I know on statins have a missing link in their brain and memory loss too. Sorry don't agree.. Change your diet.

@The Brain Docs. Two questions, 1) Where is the study from which you are supposedly quotiing? 2) Are the reductions in risk absolute risk reduction or relative risk reduction? I ask because there have been others on Youtube that have have presented that the side effects of statins outweigh the benefits and they include their studies as source material.
