I got an art degree. We had real classes. They taught us. The only thing I'm really disappointed about is they didn't teach enough about the actual business of being an artist. This was mid-laye 90s. So the professors were skeptical of anything Internet. I did lear about making a portfolio of slides to send to galleries though. That's been really useful

I didnt go to an art university, but a regular one that had an art program and it taught me so much with so many mediums and techniques and i never would have had the opportunity to try many of those things or get the feedback i needed to improve my art

I’m in art school and I actually like it a lot! You learn a lot of weird stuff and yeah networking is a huge part of school. I got lots of cool gigs and learned how to draw people. 😊 and I learned new mediums I’ve never heard of.

It's such a relief to hear this. I've been wanting to quit school for over a year now, but stayed due to these invisible obligations that I've put on myself.
The reality is - that spark is gone. I don't love making art like I did before. I've learned more technical stuff, at the cost of sacrificing why I create in the first place.

I'm quitting at the end of this semester, and I know this will be the right path forward. I can still find work, just in my own way. I want to enjoy it again.

I’m getting my first arts degree at a community college and I have to say my teachers are all amazing! They are so insightful as to how to make your art into a career and have really helped me improve my skills. I highly recommend for anyone, regardless of degree, to start with community college. It’s cheaper, and professors tend to prefer teaching there (from what I’ve been told) because it’s much calmer and they provide better benefits. You’ll get the same quality education if not better for a cheaper price! (And if you want more you can study at university later)

Good choice. I have a doctorate in music but honestly apart from connections and my Medieval music classes it didn’t help my art/music at all. My teacher and practical experience are all I needed. Your work is stunning in the true sense of the word.

I went to art school until I had to leave after something bad happened, and they DEF taught. In fact, we had a First Year Interest Group that allowed us to take ALL the basic art classes our first year because practical experience is crucial. I have no idea what that school was on about! Art History and Appreciation, Critique, 2d Design, 3d Design, Drawing, Painting in various mediums, and Sculpture classes (which I didn't take in favor of two academic subjects to knock them off my list), Metalworking and Woodworking... and Adam's State wasn't an art specific school either, it just had an art school IN it.
