God bless you professor! Would every teacher explain so simply like you, universities would be so much better places for we students. Thank you so much for your help in all your videos.

4:38 I have read that there should not be a product of dependent variable and its partial derivative for an equation to be 'Linear'. Please clear my confusion.

Thank you for the wonderful basics video on PDE . I was just curious how do we formulate such equations ....is that the research part or can it be done by any math student ...need some clues ..planning to get a career in maths ..kindly guide .

Formulating PDE's are usually done by physicists and engineers. The mathematicians provide the "tools" and methods to solve those types of equations. I hope this helps a bit

@1lIIiliIi1iillIiiII1 It is just notation. In the second example where the sphere is not assumed to be lumped, one of the independent variables is an angle which is denoted as theta; thus, the temperature was denoted as T instead.

And fyi, the PDE's you see in the video are differential energy balances. These balances are commonly encountered in the field of chemical engineering (So chemical engineers formulate these types of balances frequently).

good, you actually explained what a PDE was in 30 seconds, it goes down hill from there.

@torresq Thanks. Do a google search on
wolfram mathematica second order PDEs
and the first link will give you the text of the 2nd order linear PDEs

Professor, Noticing that the determining expression is the same as the radicand from the Quadratic Formula??

please do you have any follow up videos after this lecture

@numericalmethodsguy Please disregard my previous comment, I meant the dependent variables. I deleted the comment to avoid confusing other people who might read this.

Anyway, I think your videos are excellent and very thorough; keep up the good work!

@1lIIiliIi1iillIiiII1 It is just notation as I wanted to use theta for angle.

Thank you for this very helpful video :) However could you please get rid of the music as it distracts my understanding :(

The background music is very annoying!
