TRIP REPORT | I'd Never Seen a Plane Like This! | ITA Airways A321Neo | Madrid to London [via FCO]

ITA Airways Trip Report flying from Madrid to London (via Roma Fiumicino) onboard one of the brand-new ITA Airways A321Neo and another on the A320Neo, one in business and another in economy, on a lovely summer morning.

A beautiful and comfortable trip from Madrid to London-Heathrow, connecting in Rome-Fiumicino, on the ITA Airways Airbus A321Neo and A320Neo. As promised in a past ITA Airways trip report, one of the flights (Madrid to Rome) was in business class and the second one (Rome to London) in economy class, so we can compare both in short-haul. The plane that ITA used on the Madrid-Rome route was the A321Neo, equipped with long-haul business class flat seats.

As you can imagine, flying in this business cabin made the first flight a perfect one. We took off on time from Madrid and overflew Barcelona, Mallorca, and Alghero before landing on runway 16L in Rome-Fiumicino.

If the flight to Rome was the comfortable one, the flight to London was the stunning one: the departure from Rome, the overfly of the snowed Alps, and the final approach over London downtown (with perfect views of every single landmark), made this flight a more than amazing one. The views were just perfect.

About the onboard service, on the first flight in business class, they served breakfast which honestly was extremely disappointing. It was sad to see how the amazing flight on this amazing A321Neo was not followed by a great onboard service. On the second flight, however, we got more than usual for intra-European flights: crackers and a drink. (The usual on legacy airlines nowadays is nothing).

My father flew Alitalia in the Summer of 1972 from FCO-TLV, TLV-FCO in First Class. The aircraft was a DC-8-43. He told me that the steward wore a white jacket during service. I still have the ticket folder in my collection somewhere.

"Alitalia" sounds cooler but ITA has the better livery without a doubt. One of the best I've seen. Also, I love how much bigger and quieter the NEO engines are.
