ER nurse of 14 years here. Valsava works very rarely. Many ER docs say they only do it to document they tried it and prefer to go straight for the adenosine.

I have SVT, and thank God for the nurse that came in and said “let’s try baring down, push very hard like you’re having a baby!” And I did it.. my HR went down and it came back up to 180 bpm. I did it again, it went down to 80 and right by up to 180, did it AGAIN, I held my breathe and pushed as hard as i could for as long as I could and was in a fetal position, and bam! It stayed down.

They were about to adenosine my ass! I’m so glad she helped me and walked me through it.

My nephew has SVT along with Marfan syndrome but the SVT was found bc he heart rate was at 280 while watching tv at children’s hospital in boston, the doctors cldnt believe his heart rate was that high while just sitting down. He is on meds but with him having Marfans also, it’s hard to find something that’s works for him. He is 7yrs old now n he is just the best kid around.

this happened to me in july. heart rate was over 200. they did this method & also had to put me to sleep & used a defibrillator to correct my heart. had to get a ICD Device installed

Before my ablation literally NOTHING likd these options ever did anything for me. Ended being given adenosine every time (which was like every 2 weeks once it started) so within 2 months I had an ablation.
Since then if i do have svt i can at least reset it myself now. Its not fun 10/10 do not recommend. I also have pots and IST (irregular sinus tachycardia) AND pvc's (which is very common for most people) my heart just wants to see how many of the abc's it can collect 😂

Such a freaking relief and also weird feeling when it goes from 200+ bpm to just regular ole heartbeats lol. I've had svt since i was 11 and i squat down really fast and kinda hold my breath when going down and it usually goes back to normal 😫

Hi I'm from Philippines and I experienced SVT while I'm playing Basketball or when I'm Jumping and my heart start to beat fast around 250beats per minute, even though the game hasn't started yet, Sadly I don't have enough money to check my conditions😢, and it's really sucks. And the past 2 yrs, I'm not able to play my favorite sport again.😢
