The thing that stands out the most in this episode is by far the blue backdrop

The "Danger Island" gag and learning robots is kinda a common trope, though. I've read a ton of Sci Fi since the 60's and it's shown up a lot. I wouldn't call it a direct rip off of TNG, just them drawing from the same well.

The robot was made from a L'eggs pantyhose container.
Every kid and a few of those plastic eggs in the 80's that they got from their mom.

the best part about this episode is Riker fucking with the AI

What got me about this episode was that the Fed had access to this amazing tech for things like planetary defense and just didn't bother to follow up.

This system built drones on the fly that could take out top-of-the-line starships. A few of those around Earth and the Breen attack is way less deadly. Heck, I'd have loved to see this system modified by Starfleet and thrown into an adapt-off with The Borg.

I never even noticed this, but you're absolutely right. It's basically the same thing. 😯

It makes me kind of sick to my stomach to think that it feels just like yesterday that I was taping this episode during a rerun weekdays at 6pm in the early '90s, with a VCR I bought with my summer earnings in 1990. I had them all taped as I just figured this show, like so many others, would just be forgotten in a few years. I kept those tapes for 15 or 20 years before throwing most of them out. (And the episode felt a little old when I taped it, as I saw it during first run in the '87-'88 season. Why does everything now feel like a "not so distant future" movie from the '90s?)

Wow, I would have never made that connection!

I always thought the drones in this episode looked like outboard motors for boats.

I like picking episodes with a random number generator and this one came up for me just the other day. I grumbled because the first season is kinda crummy but I really enjoyed watching this one again.

"Adaptive weapon that gets too smart for their handlers" Feels like something that was coined in a pulp sci-fi novel that no one knows the name of nowadays but a lot of people read and went "damn that sounds cool" because it shows in a lot of different sci-fi in some form

Random.

I live in the 607, if you know this area you know Rod Serling is from my neck of the woods (If youve watched the original Twlight zone, alot of it was shot here, they mention areas here..) and Serling and Roddenberry were buddies...

The thing I can't believe The Incredibles got away with stealing (because I've never seen anyone else mention it) is the theme music from On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I want it so bad to be a rip off but the more I think about it, the more it really just is a natural progression of thoughts starting with (abandoned jungle area/world that used to/still has high tech stuff)

Of coooourse the crazy sci-fi machine is about to make an unrelenting attack on your ass and of coooourse it's super smart and has an interesting learning curve for the proponent of the story.

Except this episode predated the Incredibles by at least a decade!! 😂

why didn’t u guys include the little drone from incredibles that looks exactly like this robot, it scans for Mr Incredible when he’s hiding behind Gazerbeam’s corpse.

So from now on whenever you see a jungle, it is a rip off of Star Trek.
🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

So a Star Trek episode is based off a movie that came after it by over 10 years? These are Trek writers not the Simpsons. Come on.
